“A "Must" Stay in the Highlands”
Reviewed 14 September 2011

The 4* Columba Hotel in Inverness is a great base for touring the Highlands. As a Golf Tour Operator we have to be sure that our overseas clients will be happy in the hotels we recommend to them. The Columba has proved very popular with our guests over the past few years due to the great food and lovely spacious rooms ( some with River and Castle views ) at extremely good rates. Castles, Fishing, Whisky Distilleries and world renowned golf courses like Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Castle Stuart and the "hidden gem" at Fortrose and Rosemarkie are all in the Inverness area making this hotel an ideal choice. I have dealt many times with Donna Hardie who is a pleasure to work with and nothing is ever too much trouble.

we stayed in the Columba hotel for a saturday night away from the kids and we had a really nice time. the room was a good size and very clean. breakfast in the morning was really nice with a great choice of different things to eat - the scrambled eggs were fab! the only (very small) negative was the the bedside lights are actually above your head and are so bright we had to switch them off. like i say - a very small point. overall we had a relaly good time and would certainly go back.

After reading some of the reviews about this hotel I arrived here with some trepidation.I particularly wanted to stay in this hotel as it featured in a book I enjoyed years ago!! The hotel is a city centre building dating back to at least victorian times.
Anyway our stay was wonderful in everyway, the staff were as helpful as anyone could wish and always polite and pleasant. The food was delicious and well presented which always adds to the whole experience in my opinion.
We had an amazing view of the river and the castle from our room.
The car parking at the cathedral was no problem as it was a short walk (5 mins) along the riverbank.
To sum up..this hotel gave us a good 'Scottish' feel to our visit which we really didnt think a big chain hotel could do.We will be staying here again when we visit Inverness next year.

We stayed here for a long weekend , the staff are some of the most helpfull ive come accross and couldnt do enough for you. Our room looked out over the river up to the Castle (wonderfull view) , rooms are big and roomy , not like some we've stayed in in the past. T.V and internet .. and the usual things you find in a hotel room. But all in all a well run hotel with great views and close to the city centre.

A friend and I stayed one night here. It was warm that day, and our room on the upper floors was hot and humid. The window could only open a crack, and it was HOT in there! They did provide a fan, which helped, but nothing could help one of the creaky, squeaky beds in our twin room. I felt bad for my friend, who was literally afraid to move, lest she wake me! The shower had a rather large step up (and that means another large step to get out)!

The view from the castle view side of the hotel was very lovely, and the location was good, unfortunately we had a room facing the back side, which was not great, and were given a 4am wake up call from the mutant seagulls!

Very average, and not really a great value.

Room Tip: Castle view side would be nice

Rooms are cold, no heat. Parking is a ways away and there is a charge. No offer to help with luggage. Fees for Internet, room service and you only get one key. No tissues, no place to hang a hand towel, no room to put anything you use in the bathroom, bed was creaky, saggy and small.

I have noted your valuable comments down and will try my best where possible to address.
I was concerned by your comment on heating, as we do have heaters fixed in all our rooms which are controlled by the guests to adjust accordingly.
Once again, thank you for your comment and I do hope we have the pleasure in welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.

We were unlucky with our room - at side of hotel with vent from kitchen right outside single glazed window so very noisy. I asked about a change of room but the hotel was full so not possible. Hotel claims to have been recently refurbished but I'm not sure which part, certainly not our room! We did not use the shower because of mildew and peeling paintwork and enamel on toilet seat was cracked. Breakfast was adequate.
Service was excellent with helpful and friendly staff and the location is superb but the cleanliness requires attention.

Room Tip: rooms at front of hotel with river/ castle view are more expensive but might be worth paying.
