I stayed recently with a bus load of Germans. I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews. I need not have worried. Great location and good enough for the money. The food was good and the staff helpful. The hotel was very busy but the food was served very quickly. Our room was at the back so not a good outlook but that was not a problem, we can't all be at the front. I would stay there again.

This hotel is centrally located by the river Ness and in front of Inverness Castle which now a days is used as a Courthouse. There are many stores and restaurants around, places to buy scottish souvenirs and stores where you can find many different kinds of whiskey.

The rooms are charming, the carpets have a kilt design and are beds are comfortable. The food is quite good. It is a comfortable hotel.

Before writing this I took a look at some other reviews which I don't normally do and I must say I find the negative comments strangely out of synch with my experience. The Columba is not a glam hotel, it's comfortable and a bit dowdy in parts but the staff at the desk were lovely. I can't speak more highly of them. The timber panelling is a nice touch in the downstairs areas. I found the dining room though a bit less friendly. Not particularly impressed with the breakfast fare but it was adequate. I ate at the restaurant one night rather than find a single seat in a better class of restaurant and while the food was nothing to write home about it was OK. One thing I do dislike is to be constantly asked if everything is OK. It's not really necessary. The staff seemed a bit inexperienced and I don't know if that a language thing as most were from eastern Europe. My impression was they were a little uncomfortable and overcompensating. My room was at the back and I presume this was one of the annexe rooms as the corridor was long and I had a view of the street at the rear of the block. The room was comfortable and adequate for my needs. Inverness is a lovely little city and the location of this hotel made it easy to access restaurants, shopping and sights.

A very belated review as just joined Trip Advisor! Stayed here back in March for the weekend and thought it was lovely! We had a stunning view of the river, spacious and clean room and a lovely stand alone old fashioned bath! Dinner each night was delicious and service excellent as was breakfast! So close to all the shops and pubs! The bar John McNabb's had a cracking atmosphere and we befriended a coach load of folk from Dallas, USA! We had a great weekend in Inverness and would go back to this hotel again! Thanks!

Room Tip: Ask for a river view!!

We were not in Inverness of very long , however the staff at this hotel made us feel welcome and made our stay very nice. The host made the effort to farewell us. No safe or fridge, however a fridge may not be necessary. Very close to shops and restaurants.

Excellent location and clean room (if a little dated) provided just what I wanted on a business trip.

Dining room quite dark with no windows, but bar has a nice outlook and friendly staff.

I would stay again.

My wife and I have just returned from 10 weeks across Europe so had a fairly good cross section of the Hotels ,some good others fair and the Columba just plain Bad. I note that this report has already been delivered by Veritus who has covered all the major failings of this Property. I was the unfortunate Insight client that was given the sub standard room with nasal contamination on the curtains. I spent some time the next morning explaining to Brian (Manager) that he needed to take a serious look at the way the Hotel staff treated Coach groups as it appeared that we were considered by the restaurant staff as an annoyance rather than an opportunity for them to make some money for the hotel. With the right management and a really good clean up this should be able to reach at least 3 stars but at this stage it should not be considered as a Property that Insight should select for their Inverness stopovers.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review following a recent overnight stay with us. I am sorry that you left our hotel feleing this way. Clearly you did not enjoy your time with us, I am sorry. We do have several hundred tour cleints with us each week and I have to be honest we get very good feedback but clearly on this occassion we have allowed our standards to slip, there are no excuses and we will ensure we correct this.
