Another Wetherspoons pub that is well worth a visit. It is being redecorated at this time which is good as it is a bit dark in there.
We have been there many times and the staff are always excellent and the food very nicely cooked and the beers, SUPERB.
I had fish & chips served with garden peas and my wife had chilli.
My fish was perfectly cooked and the chips, supreme. The only thing that stopped me giving the meal 5 was food on cold plates and the peas, perfectly cooked but not very hot. My wife's chilly was excellent and not to hot. Again cold plate!
Tim Martin, THE BOSS, is a brilliant caterer and if most caterers followed his way of catering the standards of food in this country.
Value for money, 5 stars.

Thanks for your review of the King's Highway. I'm glad you enjoyed the food. You mentioned cold plates-it's is a bug bear of Tim's but it's never been highlighted as an issue at The King's Highway. One for us to look into! You mentioned it was a bit dark, I'm pleased to say more lights have been installed int the pub as part of the recent works as this was a common complaint. Thanks again for your review.

Stayed for 3 nights last week in a newly refurbed room. Very large comfortable bed, large room and everything spotless. What's more it was very quiet - just what we like.
The Wetherspoons was fairly busy but not noisy, and good service.
Location is great - close to all amenities. Excellent value for money.

Hi,
thanks for review of the King's Highway from June 2012. I'm sorry you dodn't receive a reply if you ever have any issues the best thing is to talk to our customer services team if you feel the pub tea weren't helpful. As it was so long a go I can't really deal with the issues you've raised, but i can say that we are undergoing a massive refurbishment so should you stay again you'll see the vast improvement in the quality of the rooms.

Thanks

The King's Highway.

Stayed in this hotel on two separate nights last week. First night in a lovely room, king size bed, super shower, clean and spacious and obviously one of the newly refurbed rooms. Second night in what can only be described as a dire excuse for a hotel room. It was cramped dingy and the bathroom was a horrible tired space. n saying that this hotel is very close to the bus and train stations and the shops and the food is very good in the bar so when all the rooms are brought up to the standard of the first room i stayed then it is definately a good choice in inverness. The hotel has a very small car park so if you cant get parked the Rose Street car park beside the bus station is handy and safe and very reasonably priced (£4 for the day and £2 for each day after that). For the purposes of my review i have based my ratings on the refurbushed room.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room and at the rear of the hotel if your a light sleeper

a great location, right in the middle of Inverness - the room was spacious but could have been clearner. We were only in Inverness for the night so it didnt bother us particularly. That said, the bed linen and towels were spotless and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Good price for the location as most other hotels were over £120 for the night. We didnt eat at the pub but it looks like a popular spot for both tourists and locals.

On the final day whilst in Scotland we found ourselves in Inverness for a night, the friends I was travelling with have stayed at the King's Highway previously and recommended it as a base.

We got to the hotel fairly late on a Friday night so waited at the reception, where we were checked in by a helpful member of staff. The room was on the first floor, which we didn't find noisy even though it was over the bar. It was clean and spacious, with a desk and TV along with an en suite. The view outside looked out onto a block of flats, but you don't come to these sort of places to sit in the room!

Being a Wetherspoons we took advantage of the downstairs bar, which was busy but had no problems finding a table. In true 'Spoons' fashion, there were several (mostly Scottish) based ales on. It had been a long day of travelling so we didn't stay for long, it seemed most people were heading for a night out in Inverness though as the atmosphere was lively.

The only annoyance was the noise of seagulls very early in the morning, this is of course no fault of the hotel though.

Used the shower in the morning and I think it's the most powerful I have ever sampled, it was exceptionally good! However I couldn't help but thinking that the bathroom, could do with a bit of a refresh.

Would definitely stay here again, the price was good and the fact the pub is just a stagger downstairs is a real plus point.

Hi JonB125! Thanks for reviewing the King's Highway on Tripadvisor.

I'd like to address a few points you raised-Sea Gulls! Inverness BID are in the process of a sea gull cull and a-sure me they've dealt with 80% of the gulls in the City. It is a problem for us and every hotel in Inverness!

We do stock 7 ales at any one time and we aim to have a broad selection from across the UK, but being a Scottish pub in the heart of the Highlands it is to be expected that the majority of ales will be Scottish.

Your other point about the rooms being tired-a major refurbishment starts on the 22nd of April. I hope the next time you stay you will be in one of the newly completed rooms.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review,
The King's Highway.
