“Awesome!”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

Believe all the good things you've heard!!! Susan and John are so friendly and accommodating. The guest house is beautiful with great updates (the shower was better than mine at home!). The room was spacious and clean, the beds and linens were comfy and pretty. Great coffee/tea set up in room as well as delicious homemade shortbread! Breakfasts were delicious. Susan is quite the cook!! They made great recommendations for what to do and see (and the recommendations were spot on!). Great location too - short walk to eveything (including train and bus stations). We hope to be able to stay there again someday. Highly recommend!!

Hi Susan

Thanks so much for your kind review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us, and anytime you come back to the highlands, it would be our pleasure to see you again!

The secret to the showers is having a pressurised storage tank for the hot water! No noisy pumps to disturb the other guests, and it really is very efficient!

Email us if you'd like the shortbread recipe - we're happy to share.

Kind regards, Susan & John

Susan and John are lovely hosts and make you feel right at home from the moment you set foot in the door. After travelling almost 2 days the cup of tea, cake and a chance to unwind and unburden is most welcome.
The room was sweet, spacious, and well fitted, the bed is divine!! The coffee bar is well stocked and theres nothing like home baked shortbread and a cuppa first thing in the morning.
Then there is the breakfast......Wow... delicious is the best word I can think of!! And if you get a chance try the breakfast muffins!!!
The location is handy and a short walk to the high street makes it easy to have a bit of a shop.
All in all wonderful stay with welcoming hosts. Thanks guys!!

Hi Venus

Well after all that planning and preparing, we're so pleased that you enjoyed your trip to Scotland to celebrate your milestone birthday, and are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us so much! I hope you got to use the summer clothes that you had to buy for our mini heatwave during the rest of your trip?

Let us know how you got on up in the North and on your tour of the islands - hope you had enough novels with you to keep you going? If you can persuade your sister to come with you next time, we'd be really happy to welcome you both back to our home.

Kind regards, Susan & John

You really can't go wrong booking a stay here, whether you're traveling solo or with friends. From the minute you walk through the front door you’re in for a comfortable stay.
Within minutes of arriving you are treated to home-made cake and tea or coffee and John and Susan will spend time with you finding out what you want to see and do during your stay. They quickly establish your interests and will make suggestions as to what you ought to see, giving you travel advice and also help with booking restaurants. Whatever your need it never seems too much for them to help with.
Despite living in Inverness for a relatively short period of time John and Susan have made sure that they have visited the places they recommend and John's photography courses have also helped them experience their surroundings. Many examples of John's work can be seen on the walls throughout the guesthouse.
The sound of laughter regularly echo’s through the house as other travellers arrive and are welcomed in by Susan and John. There is never an uneasy feeling at breakfast which you might get with other places where none of the guests talk to each other. There is always a calm, happy and relaxed atmosphere at Inverglen.

Room Tip: Both rooms that I have stayed in were lovely and the road outside the gust house in not busy.

Hi Liz

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review for us - it was great to see you again, and weren't you lucky with the weather this time! It's not often we get 5 days in a row of sunshine and high temperatures, but when we do, there is no better place on earth - mind, I'm sure the sea is still warmer in the Caribbean!

Looking forward to seeing you again next time you come to visit!

Kind regards, Susan & John

We received a very warm welcome from Susan & John with a cup of tea and fresh out the oven orange cake. That was the start of a wonderful two day stay. The room was bright, fresh & so clean, excellent beds (slept like a baby); also off street parking in a very quiet residential area. A short (about 10 minutes) walk to the city, close to shops and an array of restaurants & pubs. John was a fount of knowledge and an excellent tourism advocate for the Scottish Highlands, both Susan and John are a very genuine, hospitable couple and go out of their way to make your stay perfect. Breakfast was such a wonderful start to the day, the choice! Susan's cooking is superb and with John serving the delicious feast it was the highlight of the day. The best B & B we have stayed in and cannot recommend this guest house highly enough.

Room Tip: We had the family room as there were four of us. It was at the back of the house, very light and ai...

G'Day! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review for us - we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us so much, and felt at home here. We do try really hard to help guests to get the most of their visit, so we're really pleased that John's advice and tips were so helpful.

We're going to make some changes to our family room over the winter, so keep an eye on the website in the new year to see what we've done!

Hope to see you again if you venture back to these shores.

From the location in a quiet neighborhood, to the scrumptious treats, we were welcomed and treated as friends coming for a visit. Every detail is thought out and anticipated. John and Susan are unobtrusive, yet so helpful to us. We traveled with another couple and all agree this was the highlight of our trip. I can only imagine a stay in the winter wearing flannel Jammies, under the scrumptious down comforter, sipping tea and eating one of Susan's scones, hot from the oven. Bliss!

Hi Cheryl

We're so pleased that your party enjoyed their stay with us so much, even though your husband seemed to age by a year whilst he was here! Nothing to do with Susan's cooking - just a birthday!!

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels, and if you ever do come back in the winter, feel free to come to breakfast in your flannel PJs and dressing gown!!

Kind regards, Susan & John

We were lucky to stay here in July thanks to a last minute cancellation. Inverglen offers a convenient location, beautiful house, and extremely gracious hosts at a very reasonable price.

Though there were only two of us, John and Susan put us in the enormous and beautiful family size room at the back of the house. The room (indeed the whole house) was perfect - very clean, spacious, and extremely well organized. They have honestly thought of EVERYTHING - the drawer full of goodies under the tea kettle was a great surprise. The bathroom contains good quality toiletries, the spare blankets are so soft and wonderful you want to take them home (don't worry, I resisted the temptation). And the beds were the most comfortable we slept in throughout the whole trip.

The real gem of this place though is John and Susan themselves. So friendly and welcoming! It begins with a welcome email containing restaurant suggestions, then tea, biscuits and a chat upon arrival... They take genuine interest in what you've done so far and offer really good suggestions for other things you may enjoy. They take great care of the guests... Fresh milk and cold water in the fridge upstairs... Homemade baking every day... An amazing packed breakfast before an early departure to Orkney... The list really goes on and on.

If you have a chance to stay here, DO IT! It will be one of the most memorable parts of your trip to beautiful Scotland!

Room Tip: The family room at the back is quiet and huge.

Hi Guys

I think we were also lucky to have the two of you as guests - it was such a pleasure to meet you. Glad you managed to get in your day trip to Orkney whilst you were with us, even though it was such a long and busy day!!

We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much, and if you're ever back over from Canada, please do look us up again. Hope the flood damage wasn't too bad at your mum's house, and that all is back in order now.

Kind regards, Susan & John

My wife and I stayed 3 nights with John and Susan in July in our 5 weeks travels in Scotland.
The guesthouse is a superb old building, as was the quality of the room and the breakfast. We were very very comfortable and slept really well. While close to town, a 10 minutes walk down hill, the location is extremely quiet.
Hosts John and Susan are extremely helpful, with recommendations for local dining and attractions. On suggestion from Susan we were fortunate enough to see wild salmon jumping at The Falls of Shin and heaps of other sites on a day trip to Golspie.
My wife & I were planning to do some walking in the Cotswolds following our time in Scotland. I was concerned because I was having some issues with foot pain. In short, Susan was familiar with my problem, said what she thought was helpful and even sold me, at cost price, here very own rolling pin which I needed to work on to loosen the tightness in my foot. Needless to say it worked a treat, we had a great time walking for a week, and I even bought the rolling pin back home with me for future use, in spite of the extra weight.
We were guided by the other reviews in our choice of a place to say and we weren't disappointed. Thank you John and Susan!

Hi Chris

Thanks so much for your kind review - we're delighted that you and Toni enjoyed your stay with us so much.

Glad that the rolling pin is still with you - I'm sure it enjoyed it's trip to the islands after it left here!! We're really pleased that it helped to relieve your foot pain so that you could enjoy your walking holiday later in your trip - did you ever ask a landlady to borrow her vacuum cleaner too? I must remember that tip next time my foot plays up!!!

Just to reassure my other/future guests, I have a different rolling pin that I use for making the biscuits!!!

Kind regards, Susan & John
