“Best accomodations on our trip”
Reviewed 12 August 2012

During our recent 13 day trip to Scotland, we stayed at 8 different locations. Inverness was by far our most enjoyable stop. This was in part due to our time at Strathness. The owners were extremely friendly, gave us advice on what sites to see and what not to see, pointed out places to eat, and were very thorough with regards to getting us checked in. And most importantly, they were fantastic about helping us get laundry done! The rooms are nice. The location within Inverness is perfect for walking around town, and we had a great view of the river from our room.

Stayed here on 9th Aug 2012. A very clean and well looked after guest house in a lovely building on the riverside. Attention to detail is great and the owners were very helpful.

We had two rooms, one larger with a river view. Both rooms were very quiet and comfortable, and the bathrooms nicely fitted with walk in showers.

Breakfast was cooked to order and tasted good.

The only two minor issues were the TVs are rather small and one had a poor signal, and the curved shower is quite small even though it looks great.

Would highly recommend and we'll definitely return next time.

We stayed at Strathness House in April in a family room. Hosts were attentive and friendly, room clean, warm and comfortable. Taking our suitcases up the stairs after a visit to the Glen Morangie distillery was challenging, but no doubt very good exercise! Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Just be aware there are no lifts, just stairs

Having been travelling through Europe we deliberately choose a guest house style accommodation over a larger hotel and we were not disappointed as Strathness House was the haven we needed. The rooms were very well cared for and of an ok size with good facilities. A feature was our view! We looked out over the River Inverness - A great way to start and finish each day. The shared guest room was warm and inviting and I spent an hour one afternoon talking with our hosts Jared and Joan about our travels and ideas for our next days plans. The cooked breakfast was good and for our 7.00am departure Joan arranged for a thoughtful packaged breakfast for us - Thankyou. Pub and restaurants are within an easy walk (ask Jared about the seafood restaurant nearby he recommends and try the smoked muscles). Also check out the Eden Court Theatre just a few minutes down the river walk. We saw a production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s "Kidnapped" - A real Scottish story. Back here in Australia we find our thoughts often drifting back to our big holiday and our stay at this guest house and our Inverness experience remains a good memory. Enjoy.

We stayed at Strathness House during July and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Javed and Joan could not have been more obliging and were constantly seeking to ensure that all guests were well-looked after. The location was excellent, theview of the river from the breakfast room was lovely, parking was available close by and our room offered all essential facilities. Highy recommended

We saw the picture of Strathness House online and expected a giant building. Instead, the hotel is a 16 room walk up with no lift. The proprietors are very friendly and helpful. The place is family owned and frankly the rooms look like bedrooms in someone's home. The rooms are tiny and dated. The tv is so small it's hard to see from the double/twin beds. There are very few channels that actually come in. Though there is free wifi, it is extremely slow. Since we are on the top floor it took almost 10 minutes for the hot water to reach our room. The hotel is situated in a great spot a short walking distance of downtown Inverness. There are many other hotels on our block.

Strathness House IS a giant building in relation to other usual Guest Houses. I suppose it depends on what any one person understands “GIANT” to be!
If these guests had taken time to read their Terms and Conditions when they received their Confirmation, then they would have known that we have no lift. (Incidentally, there is a copy of our Booking Terms and Conditions on the foot of the pages of our website.) Also if they have been looking on the website, they would also have known how many rooms we have. Obviously as they have not bothered to read, they continued to assume. Assumptions only end up as disappointments.
Having no lift is not usually an issue, as all our guests are asked if they require help or they are helped with their luggage.
As far as stating that the rooms are dated it is obviously a very personal opinion as all the rooms have recently been renovated and refurbished. As for the rooms being “tiny”, well it only goes to prove that these guests were expecting everything to be in giant scale. Our bedrooms are larger than average guest rooms.
“Looks like bedrooms in someone’s home”..........is that a good thing or a bad thing? I suppose it depends on what your home bedroom looks like.
TV’s are off an acceptable size, again it is up to the individual, what they are assuming to find!!!
There should have been 80+ channels on the TV. These guests did not mention otherwise to us. The TV’s are checked on a daily basis. We can only assume that these guests were messing about with the TV channels and disturbed the settings. These settings are easily rectified, by means of a button on the remote control. This is done on all Departs from the room.
A slow Wi-Fi, is not a normal occurrence and it certainly not a complaint that we have had. Maybe they were downloading films????
There is no way that the hot water took 10 minutes to come through the pipes to their room. Certainly the water has to travel up to the top floor and this would take a few seconds at the most. They forgot to mention that there was ample hot water.

At the end of the day, I am unsure as to why they booked into a Guest House, they should have booked into a Five Star Luxury Country House Hotel and all their assumptions would have been fulfilled. Could it be that they wanted all the luxuries and not want to pay the price.?

This guest house is by far the best my wife & I have ever stayed in.
Everything was spotlessly clean, the service was excellent,
& the food was fantastic.
Joan & her husband were very kind & welcoming.
Would certainly recommend this establishment to all.

Room Tip: All the 3 rooms that we were in, were fantastic.
