“On the trail of Bonny Prince Charlie”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2010

The local tourist information chap booked our room for 2 nights at Cavell House. I heard him confirm that we would get a room with a river view on the phone. When we arrived we were given a minuscule back room with all the space taken up by a silly fake "4 poster"(actually just pipes joined together with a lace canopy). There was basically no room for our suitcases and, although green, the view was of the backs of other houses not the River Ness. When we caught a glimpse of one of the front rooms with a view (which was the same price) we were very disappointed. It was large and with a proper 4-poster!
The room was cold, apparently the Scots don't notice! Luckily in the morning the sun poured in and made it pleasant. The shower was a nightmare. Gallons of water poured down the drain or sprayed all over the bathroom while trying to work out how to make it hot and then, how to turn it off! My husband was ready to book out immediately, but we stuck it out.
The hostess was very friendly and helpful, giving excellent touring, eating and accommodation suggestions. Breakfast was great and served on lovely old crockery.
The Wifi worked well and the off street parking was convenient, though limited.
The location of the house is excellent...a lovely stroll along the river to the restaurants and shops of Inverness. By just taking the "4 poster" bits off the bed would have made it possible to actually walk around the room and would have totally changed our stay.

Cavell House is perfectly located if you want to enjoy a nice walk along Ness river before visiting Inverness town center. It won't take you more than ten minutes to reach the castle.
The stone house dating from the sixteenth-seventeenth century has kept most of its historic character .The rooms are quite small but very charming and cosy.
But what distinguishes Cavell house from any other good-value bed and breakfast is without any doubt the owners' humanity and sense of hospitality. From the moment you call to book a room til the moment you say good bye, you really feel regarded as a guest, almost as if you were visiting your beloved Scottish Auntie.
Mrs Cavell is really someone you can have a nice chat with, she always has something fascinating to tell you about the sights and history of the Highlands. She has a good sense of humor and was proud to impress her French guests with her very funny story about the origin of the word marmelade.
She is passionate about nice food and will tell you where to find the nicest restaurants. Cavell House's tasty traditional Scottish breakfast is therefore worth trying.

Tired of formica and laminated modular rooms, sick of breakfast in “funky surroundings”. Have you ever woke in the morning and wondered which pasteurised and homogenized hotel you were in, and in what city? There is a cure, it’s called Cavell House, comfortable, traditional rooms with personality and something special, a warm and friendly place to stay.
Breakfast, sourced locally, beautifully prepared and delightfully presented.
Camilla and Neil, the owners, are friendly and welcoming, there really is nothing I can fault, great location, lovely hosts, super food.

A warm welcome hid the deficiencies of Cavell Guest House. The decor and bedcovers were colourful. Bonnie Prince Charlie would have liked it. We booked a twin room. Our large room had a double and two single beds in it. The beds were worn out. A very large TV, reception passable.
Good En-suite with clear glass windows and a good view of the river. Which means that people can see you washing if you do not draw the blinds. I was not comfortable and not happy here I would not recommend it. Expensive and poor quality at £80.00 for two people one nights B&B.

What a wonderful little gem.We have just returned from Inverness and were fortunate to have booked our 7 night stay at the Cavell guest house. The location was excellent ,and within a few minutes of the river, bars, restaurants and town centre.

Our hosts Camilla and Neil were a friendly, genuine, delightful couple and were so knowledgeable and informed about their wonderful country and were able to give us lots of wonderful suggestions of places to visit. I could have listended to Neil for hours as I urged him to tell me about the geography, history and tales from the past.

Our room which had a four poster was beautiful and quiet and the bathroom and shower were excellent and everything was spotlessly clean. There were loads of little extras which made everything very special.

The breakfast were the best we have ever had anywhere! The starters were endless, with fruit, cereals, yoghurt, juices and seeds and the full Scottish breakfast was a site to behold. There were also other alternative choices including a platter of fresh fruit with an incredible choice, or kippers or haddock. Everything was totally delicious, beautifully presented and nothing was too much trouble............ and for something extra special ask for an afteroon tea on your return and you are in heaven.

If ever we are back in this wonderful location, we would definitely not stay anywhere else, you really couldn't do better and the value for money is excellent.

After over a 600 mile drive to Inverness from the South of England I can't image a more comfortable, charming, welcoming and friendly place to end a long journey. We were in Inverness for a friend's wedding and found the B&B run by Camilla and Neil to be the perfect base.

The house is centrally located, 5 minutes from the castle, 10 minutes from the cathedral and overlooks some very attractive rivers and gardens. There are many bars and restaurants a short stroll away.

All rooms are charming in a country style and have all the little touches that can make a B&B feel like home from home. We had a four-poster bed, which was a really nice surprise since we hadn't asked for one. In our room there were books on the shelves, a fresh fruit bowl, period clocks and other homely touches. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided along with biscuits. Our room had a wall-mounted flat screen TV. Everything was immaculately clean.

All the rooms are ensuite with both a bath and an overhead shower. Our bathroom was a really good size too. I enjoy a long soak after a hard day and a whole range of bubble baths and bath soaks were on hand. There were was even a candle, in case a candle-lit bath was the order of the day. If you want to go one step further and treak yourself to a footspa, then you can help yourself to one on the landing. Camilla had thoughtfully provided footcreams too.

I can honestly say we were treated to the best breakfast I've ever been served in a B&B. The dining room is a wonderfully attractive room, full of antiques and polished to perfection. The buffet table is laid with cereals, fruit, yogurt, preserves, bread, oat cakes and juices to help yourself to. Cooked breakfasts are ordered the evening before and will not fail to please. I tried both the traditional Scottish cooked breakfast and the porridge. Both were perfect. There's not many places were they seem able to poach an egg properly. Cavell House is one of them.

Not only do Camilla and Neil cook an excellent breakfast but they are incredibly friendly hosts and happy to help where ever they can. I will recommend this place to all and can not praise the place highly enough. I hope I get a excuse to go back one day.
