My sister and I traveled to Fort William and its surrounding West Highland territory on 11.22 through 11.24.2013, during our first trip to Scotland. Our whole experience at the Gowan Brae was a wonderful introduction to Scottish hospitality as our host, Mrs. C was terrific, the room was pretty and comfortable in addition to an extra upstairs common area and large bathroom, and the breakfasts were great ! We loved having a library of Scotland books
to read too!!! Hated to leave!

We booked this our night very last minute and the lady owner couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming!

We are a young male gay couple and this didn't phase her at all (sometimes we can get an awkward reaction).

The location was perfect just a few minutes walk to the Main Street.

Room was very comfy and we had a very tasty breakfast the next day.

Great value for money!

For some reason I can't delete the swimming pool rating (there isn't one but if there was I'm sure it would be great)

After long drive from Yorkshire (via Oban!!) we arrived at Gowan Brae early evening with a warm welcome from the landlady. Room was clean and warm, bathroom was compact. Great breakfast and only 5 mins walk from town. TV bit small when watching in bed....but this seems to be a common problem in all the B&B's we stayed in. Would definitely stay again.

Well received at this B&B. Friendly owners who gave some good tips on what to see and where to eat. The bed was a little soft and hard on the back but the room was clean, nicely decorated and warm. Enjoyed a hearty breakfast with a dram of whisky. Minutes from the city centre, we had a lovely time.

The place is just a couple of blocks from the restaurants and shopping in the town center. I stayed in the twin room. The building is old, and the windows leaky, but we stayed warm enough. Not the most up to date decor, and the room was a bit small, but that was fine, since I didn't spend much time there. The private bath was down the stairs. Breakfast was very good, and the hostess very helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

after setting off at 5am on a long drive from hull via oban we arrived at 6.00pm in fort william.
and was looking forward to a cup of tea in our room. we were met by jim and shown to the room (2) it was spacious enough, warm and had all the usual tea/coffee/biscuits. (funnily not shortcake). it also had 2 bottles of red and white wine, which went down well.
breakfast is by listing what you want the night before a choice of 4 cereal and 5 cooked, there was also a good veggie selection, plus yougurts and fruit. the cooked breakfast was big enough and really nice. they also do a rather nice fishcake for breakfast.
just 1 critisism the bed was very hard and we both had trouble sleeping, but it could have been too soft, its all each persons preference this isn't to detract from the b and b.
this is a good value place to stop as its a very short but steep walk to town. max 10 mins to the railway station where we went on the jacobite steam train.

Great place to stay! Located on a quiet street just 5 min from the city centre. We felt like being at home, nice room, wonderful breakfast and very friendly and helpful hosts. It is very convenient to go for a hike around Glen Nevis.
We will surely come again! And stay longer then!
