We stayed at Inverlochy Castle for a few nights in the Gatehouse cottage.
It was one of the most incredible places we have ever visited. The castle and grounds are incredible. We were so impressed with the helpful staff. They made great suggestions for local attractions and helped us with transportation to 2 different airports. The food is spectacular! We had dinners in the private dining room for our large group. The service was excellent! They accommodated our children and a vegetarian with delicious options. It feels like the most beautiful private home.
I want to visit again vey soon!

This must be the best country hotel we've ever stayed in. The welcome in the car park, the spacious well appointed bedroom and the food were all just right. Dinner in the evening could not be bettered. The selection of wines extensive and breakfast delicious.

Thus hotel is by no means cheap, but our night was worth every penny. Can't wait to go back.

Inverlochy castle was a fabulous location. The castle was out of this world and I felt like a real celebrity. The rooms were large with a large bathroom (large enough to accommodate 2 adults and 2 children comfortably). The breakfast was just gorgeous - the choices were unreal. They ranged from whiskey porridge to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to pancakes bacon and maple syrup (and everything in between). The staff in the castle were so kind and lovely and genuinely interested in helping us enjoy our trip. They were really informative of the area and even gave us champagne in our room because if a slight mix up at the airport. Unbelievable! The staff are the icing on the cake and we really appreciated their kindness and advise.

The children absolutely loved the train ride from Fort William to Mallig (on the HARRY POTTER train). They were so excited. We had a wonderful meal in Mallig before our return trip - well worth it as the views are amazing.

Fort William itself was beautiful and quaint. There are many places to eat and drink and a really good whiskey shop on the main street.
Overall the trip was fabulous our only regret was not walking up Glen Nevis - we will definitely come back to do this another time. I would recommend 2 nights minimum to really appreciate this beautiful place.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the loch (though the views all around the castle are very beautiful)

This is a stunning hotel and you can feel it the moment you turn into the drive, outside of Fort William. It has the feel of a private home; it was as if we'd been invited for a shooting weekend and our hosts were just out of view.
We stayed in a small double room, called Iona. Views of the lake from one corner window and of the gardens from the others. It was a nice room. Our en suite bath was kitted out with Penhaligon toiletries, which was just the right touch.
The grounds are immaculately kept and boast a family cemetery (very eerie, especially at night), lake with boat dock (with row boat for hotel guest use), walled flower gardens which will take your breath away, and tennis court. There are also games: croquet, billiards, chess and an assortment of board games for younger guests. We sat on the terrace and watched some guests clay pigeon shooting in the late afternoon. This kind of effortless elegance comes at quite a cost (GBP465/night), so beware. It's not cheap.
Dinner was delicious. We chose the 3 course a la carte menu instead of the tasting menu. The wine and food were faultless. Guests are asked to not use mobile phones in the dining room, but it seems it's not a rule taken too seriously. When I asked our server if I could use my phone to take a photo, she said "oh, well, yes, okay, if you do it quickly - generally we don't like people to have their phones ringing or buzzing, but a photo ought to be okay", so I quickly snapped one of the fading light over the lake, and put my phone away.
I'd recommend this hotel for both the service and the restaurant.

Room Tip: Please be sure to take a stroll around the grounds. Follow the signs along the road to Victoria Wal...

A grand home rather than a castle, this was a beautiful place to stay and I can strongly recommend it. The setting was perfect, the staff helpful and even the weather was good! I would recommend staying for dinner.

We wanted adjoining rooms as we were travelling with young kids, and the only rooms suitable were the Queen's Suite (where Queen Victoria slept) and the King's Suite. Some of the most gorgeous and spacious rooms we've ever been in - and the bathrooms were palatial and really well renovated recently. Double showers, stand alone baths, incredible views out over the sheep & cattle and the mountains.
The staff were genuinely very welcoming and friendly, helpful and proactive, and accommodating of our kids' need for early supper - despite it being a very formal atmosphere.
Beware - jacket and tie required for gentlemen in the evening (although we didn't know, so had to borrow one from the very discrete staff!).
Dining room was a little disappointing, the food wasn't as special as the rest of the hotel, although the wine list was impressive.

Room Tip: The King's Suite was absolute luxury and very quiet at night.

The location is fantastic, the house extremely grand with a wow factor, however it has to be said this is not a castle, it's a Malaysian owned hotel that was an aristocratic private home in the early 19th century built in a baronial style. Our view of Ben Nevis was priceless, however, it was a hot day and the windows couldn't be opened because they were painted over and even 2 fans left the room hot. The decor is very traditional chintz etc which is most fitting and our room high quality fittings etc but the heat was very uncomfortable. The same with the restaurant only one window out of 3 could open. (Surely an establishment like this should have on call staff to deal with the ventilation/window/heat issue.) There is no low music in the restaurant which in a relatively small room which that evening was full with tables close together makes for a rather formal and "whispery" atmosphere. The pianist in the main lounge area is a very classic and traditional feature but doesn't filter through to give the necessary sound cover for a relaxing meal. Conversations on neighbouring tables can be heard clearly which makes the occasion much less enjoyable. Also, the "dress for dinner" is way over the top, the food was ok but not fantastic having been to a number of Michelin restaurants all over the world as many guests will have done who can afford these prices. We booked the restaurant for dinner as requested on arrival, and yet waited nearly an hour for our starter after others had been served who came in after us and had to bring it to the attention of the Maitre d; this also rather spoilt our evening. In view of the heat of the day and unable to open windows I think the management could have at least relaxed the rule so no jackets, ties etc necessary. On the positive side the staff we encountered were very welcoming, friendly and do their very best, a special mention to Sandy who was very helpful to us. The snooker room is magnificent with some great historical photographs of the house and its VIP guests such as president Davis(?). This could be an amazing place but detail is so important in this price range .
