Jane and Joe make this one the best bed and breakfasts we have stayed in. They are both so friendly and welcoming and their home is beautiful. The setting with views across the loch is stunning. The breakfast was excellent and the rooms are spotless as is the dining room. We will definitely book Hill View the next time we are back in Fort William and we would certainly have no hesitation in recommending Hill View to anyone visiting the area. It is superb.

We stayed here during our road trip in the Scottish Highlands. We had booked via booking.com for a lake view room, but apparently due to a glitch on booking.com we were given a 'garden view' room on the ground floor, which was a tiny airless room, overlooking a patch of grass and few flowerpots. Totally not worth the money. When we requested for a change, initially we were told it is full house, however we found a better option down the road (great views, and a bit cheaper), then they agreed to switch us to a lake view room on the first floor the next day. The view from the top rooms are great, the breakfast is excellent, and I loved the decor of the interiors. Quite a few dinner options at walking/driving distance, the closest one being the Clan McDuff hotel next door. Unless visiting in peak season, I would recommend arriving and picking a B&B after seeing the place - there are numerous options all along the same road, with views facing the lake. Overall, Fort William is beautiful and provides a good base to explore the surrounding highland areas.

Room Tip: Ensure you are getting a 'lake view' room, else not worth it.

We stayed with our 4 year old kid, after the initial booking I realized they are not interested to welcome young children. After clarifying over email they said we could actually stay but would have to pay additional for the kid... well we did not mind as still prices were reasonable and the reviews were great. They have a policy of check in after 3:30 which posed a problem since we arrived in Fort William much earlier and with a kid it is really not easy to spend time outside for long. however after having lunch in town we arrived at 3 hoping no issues, but clearly this was not appreciated by the folks there and was expressed by Jane's welcome. It's a long walk from town and there are no street lights in many places on way. So it's not a place to stay with kids and usually guests arrive here by car (which was not our case). But the view from the room was amazing and rooms quite nice, tidy and clean. Breakfast pretty good too. I am usually accustomed to hotel people receiving my son with a lot of enthusiasm and friendliness... so I was let down in this case... I should have booked another one once I saw the policy... anyways that's a learning for me. For others it should be a good place to stay...

These days, it's relatively easy in well-visited areas to find a nice B&B with a comfortable bed and a hearty breakfast. What sets the Hill View apart from the rest (aside from, among other things, a view to die for and scrupulously clean accommodations), is its proprietors, Jane and Joe, with their extroverted peronalites and obvious delight in ensuring each guest's comfort. Our group of four actually altered our itinerary in order to stay an extra night because we simply couldn't pull ourselves away from this little gem of a place and our lively conversations with our hosts. My (single) room was attractive but rather small, and I had to keep my suitcase on the floor, but the bathroom was spacious and airy. Good parking and easy to find on the main road (altho the light over their sign was turned off one evening and we drove right past it). If you're thinking of staying someplace else in Fort William, THINK AGAIN! Hill View ticks all the right boxes.

We stayed here one night as a stop over from Inverness to Stirling. The room and bathroom was very spacious but we were on the bottom floor in the front. Other's might have smaller rooms but possibly due to the fact this is 17th century crofters cottage. The view was nice - yes there is a road - but pretty much all lakes in Scotland have roads next to them and you are literally a stones throw from the lake. The room, bathroom, and home was very clean. Because it was just a quick stay over we left before breakfast began but Jane and Joe made up a tray of food for us so that we would have a good meal in us before we left.

One thing - it can be hard to find - GPS likes to send you up a hill and not down the road following the lake. One thing the website does not explain is that you must continue out of town (you will feel as if you are going too far) about a mile to a mile 1/2 you to find the B&B. There is no house numbers - FW only uses the names of the B&B so if your lost you need to know the closets B&B/location when you call.

Room Tip: Be aware rooms upstairs maybe smaller because of the style of house. If you need/like bigger rooms...

We stayed here for the second time and it was lovely and comfortable. Jane and Joe always warm and welcoming and the bedroom was cosy and spotlessly clean, the breakfast excellent as usual. Our room overlooked Loch Linnhe and it took us approx 25 mins to walk along the lochside into Fort William. Highly recommended as a good base for touring the highlands.Good car parking.
