“Hotel From Hell”
Reviewed 20 October 2012

This hotel was booked by someone on our behalf at short notice. As we were working in Fort William doing 12 hours shifts we couldn't review it before we arrived. What a shock, shower cabinet was IN ROOM but we couldn't use it as the water was cold, toilet was in corridor which was unusable. Black mould on bedroom walls which i don't think had been painted since being built. The proprietor brought us our breakfast up just after we arrived, two rolls on cheese which went in the first bin outside in the morning. As it was 8 o'clock at night when we arrived and we had just finshed a 12 hour shift outside we had no other option but to stay Bedding was soaking with dampness as the beds were against the walls. We tried to sleep with our clothes on but couldn't it was so cold, and there were so many spiders on the ceiling to look out for!!!! I am very surprised that this hotel has not been inspected by environmental health and been told to get it up to a reasonable standard. The next night we stayed at the caledonian hotel for £5 less and they made us a lovely packed lunch as we started work to early for breakfast. Travellers be WARNED.

Two very disgruntled hard working men........

Room Tip: Don't book it..

The moment we walked in we new we were in for an experience , from the large stuffed wild cat devouring the dove of piece in a glass case, the fire door with a notice please use other door.
The extremely friendly barman was happy to fire up the kitchen even though he was on his own in order to serve us food at 8.30pm, what a star. However we did have a vegetarian with us who was delighted to hear that they catered for vegetarian meals, which included scampi, southern fried chicken , Brodie pie filled with beef and steakchips, what a star.having made our choice we then had to stand in food groups in order to demonstrate to the barman that no was ordered, by collecting in groups of fish and chips , sausage and chips and vegetarian southern fried chicken, what a star.Having despatched the food order our very friendly barman was set to take our drinks order now 9pm. Our barmen returned with two pints of Guinness which was poured somewhere else in the hotel, whilst disspleased that he had to venture off in persuite of another Guinness as our skipper belatedly decided he also desired a pint of Guinness not fearing the roth of our friendly barman . The order was completed with two pints of eighty shilling. The beer lived up to it's name and time when the beer tax was first introduced. Our friendly barman who astutely noticed that the eighty shilling beer had not been consumed was pleased that we confirmed his suspicions that the beer was off, offering a replacement pint, what a star we politely declined his generous offer. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and we would not have not have missed it for the world our barman was a star .

We were staying in a boat in Corpach Basin. We went here only because we were very tired and it was the closest place to eat. As mentioned before the hotel clearly hasn't been re-decorated for many years, so looks rather run down. Food is standard bar snack fare and we ordered fish and chips and scampi and chips. It arrived promptly and was hot. The portions were large. It was very quiet when we were there, but it was very early in the evening. The service was very friendly.

We didn't stay there so I can not comment on the accomodation.

Do not stay here. Black mould, damp patches on the walls, broken windows outside of the secondary double glazing. Very poorly maintained, black mould in the dining room walls, would not eat any cooked food there. A shower cubicle stuck in the corner of the room with a bathroom, shower and bath down the corrider, could not use either whilst there. Very, very poor and a shame for the excellent other places to stay in a beautiful part of the world. There is no sign of any effort to maintain and improve the place from a review over a year ago. Not that cheap either at £54 per person B&B, got an excellent B&B the following night for just £8 per night more which was excellent, Berkeley House in Fort William which was excellent all round.
