The hotel is set in a lovely location on the Loch side with a beautiful view. I was rather disappointed when I realised our room was at the back on the hotel with an unpleasant view and a house at the same level so they could see into our room if the curtains were open. The window was quite small which didnt let in a lot of natural light making the room quite dark. There was no air con and the evening was roasting so we slept with the window open all night while it rained which kept waking me up. The bed wasn't the comfiest but it was comfortable enough to sleep in. The room itself was nice and clean and it had everything we needed. The staff were friendly and informative and the breakfast was simple with little choice of cereal and a cooked breakfast but it tasted good enough.

Room Tip: If you stay at this hotel make sure you ask for a room at the front of the building for the view and...

Location right on the loch is stunning but too far from Fort William. My room was clean and had recently had a lick of paint, pity about the splodges all round the carpet. The bed was the hardest I have ever had to sleep on. There are no toiletries provided except for a miniscule piece of soap.
The food sounds delicious on the menu but in reality is not very good, however the service from the lovely waiting staff could not be faulted, very friendly, polite and efficient.

Room Tip: Room at the front onto loch

The Caledonian Hotel is a modern looking hotel on the ouskirts of Fort William. It is situated at the side of Loch Linnhe, with plenty of car parking space.

Our room was a good size with twin beds, a sitting area with small table and two chairs and had a good view over the loch. The bathroom was roomy with a bath shower combination, which worked well. The romm was well serviced and kept very clean while we were here.

Inside the hotel was a large entertaimnent lounge, which was well used as the entertainment was pretty good, although ther was no quiet lounge if you did not want to hear what was on.

The dining room, as with the lounge, had excellent views over the loch, the food was well cooked and the menu varied, with Haggis on one night. The breakfasts though not overlarge were tasty and did enough to keep you going till lunch time.

The staff were all very friendly from the front desk to the waiting and housekeeping, and would always speak pleasantly if meeting them in the hotel.

Th area around the hotel has lots of sightseeing places from the single track roads around the lochs to the roads around Ben Nevis. I would recommend this hotel if you like lots of scenery and the challenge of little used roads with lots to see, including wildlife ( seals and bird life). Certainly wort a visit.

Room Tip: Chose a room overlooking the loch if possible.

I needed a single room and I knew that this hotel had a good rate on them. The hotel is clean but dated. My room was at the back so no view but there was no noise or coming and going during the night. Everybody I spoke to had been before and basically you pay for what you get. Breakfast is similar to most hotels and dinner is "food". You are paying normal bed and breakfast rates so dinner is a bonus.
I arrived by train and took the hourly no 44 bus up to the hotel. The stop is just outside the train station next to Morrisons.
It would be a wonderful walk to and from the hotel if it were not for the consant traffic.
Cross the road first thing in the morning, take a deep breath and enjoy the wonderful view and "soft" air and ignore the traffic noise.

Room Tip: Front rooms have the most wonderful view

The Bay Caledonian Hotel has a lot of pluses, the view from the front, over the loch and mountains is breathtaking, and the food served throughout our stay was of a consistantly high standard. What lets the hotel down, is the fact that it is still stuck in a time warp. Wi-fi is available but only in the reception. The bedrooms are all dated and in need of re decoration, and the television in the room is basically a portable. On Sunday evening, despite having 2 coach loads of people staying, they had no live entertainment, just a radio playing very quietly. This meant that everyone either visited the hotel down the road, or retired early for the evening.
The restaurant staff provided excellenct, efficient service, but not one of them were from Scotland or indeed the u.k.

Room Tip: Ask for a room to the front on first floor or above, to enjoy the views.

Thank you for your review, I agree with you that the view from our hotel is breathtaking. Some areas are a little dated but we do try to maintain a clean, comfortable service. Thank you for the kind comments on our staff, they will really appreciate this. Regarding the Sunday night entertainment unfortunately some people want and it some don’t.

This was a good hotel, we only stayed the one night. The staff were friendly and helpful. There was a good breakfast included. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. The decor was a little out dated. This hotel has a wonderful view of the Loch, absolutely breathtaking.
