“AMAZING FOOD / STUNNING LOCATION”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2012

Staying for a long week-end break, my husband, friends and myself found the hotel perfect for all our needs. It is so centrally based in Fort William that everything is within walking distance. The food is exceptionally good and excellent value for money. The staff, cheerful, friendly and very helpful, they had time to chat to everyone and even though on the weekend we stayed they had a wedding on the Saturday and a Christening on the Sunday, they ensured there was adequate staff to tend to both guests and visitors. At no time did we feel rushed or in the way, even with the hotel being so busy at times. As mentioned in previous reviews, the hotel can do with some TLC e.g. new windows and some exterior work on the building, but the hotel is very clean and well presented internally. The room we stayed in was a bit dark due to the location of it, but we go for the holiday and getting out and about, so as long as the bed is comfy and the room very clean etc, then we are happy and this room certainly ticked all our boxes. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Rooms with outlooks either over the car park or over the front of the hotel appear brigher.

My fiancee and myself stayed here for 2 nights as part of a 4 day break in the scottish highlands. The location was excellent located conveniently at the top of the main shopping area and near the pubs and restaurants. Our room was comfortable and great for relaxing after a hard day's walk up Ben Nevis. We'd happily recommended it.

We used that hotel back in Jan.2012 while we were doing daily trekking trips around Glencoe.

Strong points:

- Location !! We had taken the train from Glasgow .. weather was miserable and windy (what a suprise) and we were quite glad to see that the hotel was literally on our left handside when we left the train station and walked through that little "tunnel". On the other hand, it's only a few hundred meters away from the start of the shopping street and its restaurants.

- Talking about restaurant: The breakfast and dining areas are pretty huge.. so no worries to have about overbooked rooms. Breakfast offers decent choice of continental and english food.. Dining room offers a pretty tasty choice of meals, well presented and you get actually quite a lot on your plate given the price tag.. We decided that there were no reasons to actually take our dinner somewhere else.

- Staff (breakfast, dinner, reception) were always very welcoming and friendly. I would be unfair to complain on that aspect.

- The hotel offers free wifi around the reception (we were on the 2nd floor.. and still managed to get a signal.. quite handy).

Not so good:

- Rooms are a bit worn out .. and so is the bathroom (but not dirty !). Could be a bit more spacious (1m space around the bed.. that's it).
- Sound insulation is really bad
- Not a friend of bulky keys that you need to leave at the reception.. prefer magnetic cards (on 1st arrival day.. the lady inverted the numbers.. and I ended up in someone else room)

Struggling to think about anything else.. particularly when I consider room fees of only 50 GBP per night.. Would definitely re-consider.

After a long days drive arrived in Fort William amd parked near Morrisons and decided to walk to find a place to stay. Walked in to the Alexandra and were offered superior room for the same price as a standard.

To be honest the superior room was nothing special but warm and clean. Had a nice meal in local bar and a couple of drinks before retiring.

Breakfast was buffet style and I was slightly concerned as last buffet style we had in Preston was all lukewarm

This buffet is excellent and was piping hot and freshly cooked. It was so good I didn't eat again until we got home for dinner that night

Room Tip: Our room was in the "new" p[art overlooking the car park at the end of a corridor on the 4...

After reading some terrible reviews about this hotel i was pleasantly suprised. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the room was clean and comfortable. The eveing meal was delicious and the staff didn't seem to mind too much that our party came into the restaurant nearly 30 mins late. I would have liked a hair dryer in the room but one was available from reception if i had needed one. Although i'm a toast and cereal girl, there looked to be a good selection of breakfast items at the serve yourself buffet. Would stay again.

My father and mother have been staying at this hotel for 20 - 25yrs, visiting with Royal Marine veterens to attend the annual Rememberence weekend. For the last three years, I have accompanied my dad, along with my wife, Brother and sister in law. The hotel is ideally situated for touring the Nevis region. We have always found the staff very welcoming, and willing to accomodate our requests. The breakfast is first class..all you can eat breakfast, consisting of diverse choice. Continental through to traditional colesteral busting Full Scottish. Tea and coffee and toast. The evening meals have always been first class.
The bedrooms (I have stayed in) are a little tired, in need of a makeover, but are comfortable, with ensuite facilities. Tea and coffee making in all rooms.
Overall the hotel would benifit from a make over, but is clean, comfortable with welcoming staff and good service throughout. The lunch bar to the rear provides excellent lunch time meals, but when busy, it's best to book to guarantee a table.

Room Tip: Hobsons choice. All rooms I've stayed in were adaquate, but in need of some TLC, as you may expe...

As we'd booked a very cheap late deal we didn't Know what to expect however the accommodation was of an excellent standard which seems to be the norm, the breakfast was buffet style was lots on offer the evening meal was freshly cooked to order and surpassed our expectations. All the staff were very friendly and couldn't be more helpful please clone them and place them in every hotel in Scotland many thanks for a wonderful stay and we hope to return sometime soon.

Room Tip: we were in room 126 which overlooks the quiet grassy seating area away from the main road
