“Wounderful end to the West Highland Way!”
Reviewed 2 May 2011

We booked two nights following walking the West Highland Way. The room we had was large and front facing. The bed was huge!
All the staff were helpful especially the cleaner who was not fazed when faced with a barking dog.
The food was exceptional. The watress was friendly and informal which suited the atmosphere. The breakfast was lovely particular small touches such as warm couisants. On such lovely eveings it was nice to have coffee outside in the garden.
I will be arranging another visit in the future.

After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, we were slightly apprehensive about booking The Lime Tree for our last night of the West Highland Way, but our fears were unfounded. We absolutely loved the whole place and the way it combined art, food and the great outdoors - our favourite things. The house is pretty, set back just off the loch with the restaurant in a wooden building to one side. The owner has filled the house with his own artwork and pieces by other artists - all gallery standard. There's also a fascinating map room with lots of books on walking, mountaineering etc. Our bedroom was in the new extension with a sizeable bathroom - spotless and quiet with a comfortable kingsize bed. Bliss! Tired from our walk, we decided to eat dinner at the hotel and again, were pleased with the high quality of the food and wine. To top the whole experience off, the staff were great throughout the whole stay - organising taxis and an early breakfast for us. A fantastic end to an epic holiday. We'd love to return.

The hotel is ideally placed ,with stunning views over the water and mountains .The Hotel was pretty from the outside and had a nice garden area ,which i would be nice during the summer for a drink outside . Inside the Hotel their were loads of pieces of artwork and a small gallery ,it was worth taking the time to venture into gallery and various rooms in hotel to look at the lovely art work

We had requested a checkin at 2 pm instead of 3 and were told that we could checkin at just after 2 which was fine .As it was it was just after three when we arrived but rooms were not ready .The staff member was polite and apologised saying our room would be ready shortly and to take a seat in lounge area .The lounge was comfy but somewhat cold ,so we were glad when we were informed our rooms was ready .

The room was large if somewhat dim ,we needed to put on ceiling light and lamps to brighten up the room ,one of the roof lights at the far end was needing its bulb replaced .I am sure if we had pointed this out they would have replaced the lightbulb.
The room was clean and tidy ,it contained all the usual items , we were surprised there was no iron etc but the info in the room said one was available for use .
The bathroom was clean and tidy ,only problem was the door did not lock ,so privacy a bit of an issue .
Two minor details on attention to detail not ,there was a plant in the window sill which had died due to lack of watering and a large cobweb on the roof . The plant in the room that othre members of our party were in had suffered the same fate . Either water plants or remove from room ,cobweb takes seconds to remove .

The staff were friendly and not at all in your face ,if we needed help they were there hich was nice .

The only food i can comment on was the breakfast ,there were a few choices on the menu ,something to suit most .
Once again i would have liked to have seen something beside the juice jugs to let you know what wa sin each one .As it was the orange was fairly easy to recognize but the other two who knows .
The cooked breakfast was fine ,the jam and the marmalade were gorgeous .well worth a try .
The waitress was friendly and helpful which was nice .

Prices for drinks alcoholic were a bit steep ,so we ventured into town for a drink .

To sum up Hotel is in lovely position ,clean and tidy ,friendly staff ,nice food ,just a bit of attention to detail and it will be spot on .I would go back again and would encourage friends to try it out .

My wife and I booked well in advance for dinner at the Limetrees. We arrived just before our booking time of 8pm and were initially sat in a very pleasant room with a log fire. Our drinks order was taken though not convinced if waiter new what a Bloody Mary was. Drinks duly arrived and I was gobsmacked when the waiter stated that he hoped my wife would not be wanting another. The question was asked, to which the reply was that a large party on the previous Thursday had finished of the Vodka (we were there the Saturday after !!!). We ordered our food, both our first choice starters were off and it was only 8pm and the restuarant did not seem too busy. We were surprised that we were asked for our desert choice in advance, something that we have not come across too often in a restuarant. When questioned, we were informed that there were only two in the kitchen and that they would prefer to know in advance ( how odd ). Needless to say, we both declined to order deserts until after our main course. On a positive note, the food was very good indeed and washed down with a nice bottle of (overpriced) wine. On the subject of the wine, it was noted that the waiter did not at any stage refresh our glasses, something that I would expect from an establishment that prides itself on service. The evening was not cheap and we should have been treated as valued customers, Tesco was up the road - I would have jumped out for a bottle of Vodka, it would have made all the difference.

Nice room and nice space to work in. However, my evening meal was spoilt by foreign bodies. I was really enjoying my wild mushroom risotto until I crunched on something that should not have been there. At first, I thought I had broken a tooth or something. But everything was intact. I mentioned this to the waiter who apologised and continued to clear the table. Then, to top it all, I got cling film in my honey parfait. I pointed this out to the waiter at the end of our meal and his response was, "Oh dear. We haven't done very well for you!" And that was it. No appearance from the chef to apologise. No offer of coffee on the house for the inconvenience. Not good! When I return to Fort William, I will stay somewhere else.

Our apologies that our food was not up to scratch - that should not happen. However you may not know as your coleague paid for the meal, but we gave your entire party a 50% discount on their food bill as a gesture of good will.

We had a fantastic time. The manager helped us personally several times. The staff was fantastic. They went the extra mile to make us feel welcomed and catered to. We were enjoyed our pre-dinner cocktails while looking at the art gallery . The meal was perfection. Good combination of boutique hotel with excellent dining. Highly recommend.

Myself and friends stayed at this hotel after completing our 96 mile walk. First thing that I loved was that my room had a lovely bath (yes odd thing to highlight, but if you have just walked a long walk wierdly enough that is what you will look for!).
Staff were friendly and the feel of the hotel was 'homely'. There were two living rooms which you could hang out in and relax. Some lovely paintings/art hanging on walls and in the gallery which was lovely to browse when we had some spare time.
The bedrooms can be divided into two. The new ones that are part of the extension and ones that are part of the original building. We stayed in the new rooms which were lovely, great size, very clean and I would definitely want to stay there again. The other type I didnt see, but my friends commented that they were still lovely but not as nice as the new rooms.
We ate in the restaurant and the food and service was excellent.

Overall I would totally recommend this to people, either as a stop off point while heading further north in Scotland(or south) or to stay a few days and use as a base to explore the local area.
