“A Beautiful Hotel overlooking Fort William and Loch Linnhe”
Reviewed 27 February 2010

Our third visit to this tastefully restored Victorian Hotel, owned and run by Lochs and Glens Holidays.Formerly known as "The Station Hotel",when built over 100yrs ago,it retains some of it's original features, but has been brought up to standards acceptable in the 21st century, such as en-suite bedrooms, all completely refurbished to the high standards expected from Lochs and Glens guests. This is the latest acquisition of the six hotels, wholly owned by Lochs and Glens Holidays, and is well worth the extra mileage and time needed to get there. You are assured of a warm welcome from Paula Dale, resident manager, and her staff.Breakfast and Dinner are,as usual, three courses, with choices to suit all palates and dietary needs. This being an all inclusive coach holiday, various excursions are included in the cost of your break,be it of 5,6,7 or 8 days duration.Depending on the time of year you take your chosen holiday, you will visit places as varied as the Caledonian Canal,Spean Bridge,Commando Memorial,Inverness,Loch Ness,Glencoe,Rannoch Moor,Oban,Mallaig,Aviemore, take a cruise on Loch Linnhe to see the seals on Seal Island,Isle of Skye to Portree,or take a day off and explore Fort William and its surrounding countryside.Ben Nevis is only a short distance away, and the mountain gondola cars are well worth a ride on,up to Aonach Mor at 2150ft above sea level.Whatever you chose to do,the Highland Hotel is the ideal place to do it from.Nightly entertainment is varied, mostly for dancing, with the occasional visit from a piper and Scottish dancing lasses. The bar is well stocked, and reasonably priced, with plenty of single malt whiskys for those who love a wee dram..
The journey from home can be tiring,so breaks are taken every now and then for coffee, lunch and comfort stops.Enjoy it, take in the scenery, you're on holiday, and you're not driving either.Coming back to the Highland in May and October 2010.Can't wait,we love it.
The hotel was a Naval Shore Base during the Second World War.

We stayed at the Highland Hotel last week on a Lochs and Glens holiday and had a wonderful time. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard and we had a room that has to be one of the best we've ever had anywhere (Room no.211) with the most wonderful views from all windows, very spacious, very comfortable beds, the room was always nice and warm (important in January!), etc, etc. The staff are always so helpful and happy (we loved seeing some of the waitresses from the Far East joining in the dancing some evenings learning our dances). The food was good as was the service, nothing was too much trouble and if you asked for something a little out of the ordinary they would always remember just how you liked it. Last but by no means least a huge thank-you to our driver Clive who made the 14 hours journey pass so easily and took us out on lots of very interesting trips; he certainly knows his job well and passes on his knowledge and love of the Scottish Highlands.

We went with Lochs & Glens on this holiday. Really good value for money and so nice to have a break in the winter. The hotel was excellent, we couldn't fault it. Food was good. The holiday was so well organised and you didn't have to think about anything just be on time for meals and tours. The staff were really helpful and cheerful. We had a lovely room overlooking the Loch.
