Very suitable for climbers/walkers/paddlers and other outdoor people who want to avoid paying hotel prices for accommodation. You can self cater in the kitchens or walk down into Fort William itself for a meal. A Spar shop is only 5 minutes' walk away. The drying rooms are the best I have seen anywhere - if Alan ever tires of his mountain guiding business, he could set up as a drying room consultant!

We stayed in one of the self catering flats. Wonderful spot, had everything we needed. Cosy and comfortable, and Calluna complex is a climbers delight, with like-minded travellers staying around and the West Coast Mountain Guides based in the complex. Gear can also be rented from here in case you forget anything.

Has a great storage area for your climbing gear/bags which mean more space in your rooms. Also, the complex has two great big drying rooms which run overnight to dry your climbing gear....

Excellent value, highly recommended.

Thanks for your positive review Liam. The drying rooms are certainly working overtime this week.

Stayed for two nights in January. Hostel has a beautiful view over Fort William and is just a short walk up the hill from the town. The hosts are friendly and very knowledgable about the local area, in particular the walks. Stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm, the shower, toilet, kitchen and lounge facilities are right outside the room which is very handy. It is very warm inside, and clothing dries quickly, excellent when it is wet outside! Feels more like staying in a house than a hostel - highly recommended.

Our family have stayed 5 times now, most recently in mid August, and we keep coming back because of the warm welcome, great facilities and excellent location. We stayed in the 6 bedded flat this visit and found it clean, comfortable and well equipped. The storage area for walking gear and the excellent drying room make it so much easier to enjoy, how shall I say this, a potentially damp holiday, without stressing about what to do with soggy outer wear. Thanks Alan and Sue, I'm sure we will return in the future.

Thanks Jane,

Glad you enjoyed your holiday and are able to let other people know. As you say, holidaying in a potentially damp part of the UK does need good drying facilities, separate from your accommodation. Our de-humidifiers and drying rooms are legendary, even though I say it myself!

regards,

Alan & Sue

We stayed two nights at Calluna's and just had a great time there. Alan's friendly character made it easy to feel home:-) His local knowledge helped us a lot to plan our trips to Loch Ness and Ben Nevis.
In the evening we had a BBQ, a couple of drinks and a nice chat with Alan. One of the highlights was the boulder-room in the basement:-) Have a good time at Calluna's! Cheers

Thanks Corinna,

Happy that you enjoyed your stay and the BBQ. Your wine was especially good! The BBQ weather has disappeared for the time being on the west coast of Scotland ;(

We stayed in the Alpine Loft for 1 week in July while visiting family in Fort William. We chose this self catering flat because it was inexpensive (compared to others in the area) and so we would be able to cook our own meals and have a private space. Overall, we found this accommodation to be quiet and suited our basic needs. We did have a few concerns that were brought to the attention of the owners and they said they would attend to them as soon as possible. One major issue that could not have been corrected during our stay was the existence of a significant amount of mould on both levels of the flat. If you have allergies to mould, be warned. There is a very musty odour in the flat, especially in the staircase leading to the upstairs. The bathroom and shower were ok but water tended to stick around and it was not very clean. The shower has mildew and could use some attention. No towels were provided. Overall, it was in a beautiful location and we were not disturbed by the climbing wall area in the same building as the flat. Next time, I would probably spend the extra money to have a place where I would have confidence it would be clean and allergen-free.

Fair comment and we do struggle with air flow in this particular part of the accommodation. As we said, we will try to rectify the problem. Creating air flow is one of the answers, but planning regulations and air tight fire doors do not help. More regular cleaning will hopefully keep it at bay.

Stayed a night here before heading off to the CIC hut for a few days. Not only did we get a lift up the hill but Alan and and Sue kept our bags safe and let us have a shower at the end of our trip before heading home. . . . perfect
