We stayed at the Cruachan Hotel from Friday 13th April to Monday 16th April. The hotel downstairs was clean and modern however, once you reached the first floor it was obviously dated. The rooms were clean but were small (room 133) the bed was a double and although I am not big my husband is and had difficulty fitting his 6t 1 frame in the bed. There was a plastic sheet over the mattress which caused us to get very hot and sticky, which we took off. The storage space had no drawers or doors so for those of us that do not want our under garments on display it was a bit annoying. Breakfast was good, however, when there was a full dining area they struggled to serve everyone and we did have to wait about 20 minutes for the full cooked breakfast.
As the heating was by storage heaters we struggled to get the temparature in the room right, it was either freezing cold or boling hot.!!!
The walls are paper thin so if you are planning any night time activities you may need to make sure there are no noises.
Overall a good hotel, for the price, it just needs a bit more organisation and perhaps sound proofing!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back face rocky hills/mountains. The rooms are at the front are varied between ones...

We stayed here for 1 night while up visiting friends that live in Fort William. The Hotel was just what we needed. A good budget hotel for £80 in Easter Week booked at the last min. the building itself was a traditional stone building in keeping with the surrounding area, On entering the building we could see that it looked like a very nice up market hotel with a nice bar and dinning room. Check In was quick and easy we were directed up to our room. The decor got more aged as we made our way to the room but nothing to complain about. The room was good! similar to what you you expect from a Premier Inn/Travel Lodge style room. Two downsides to our room were; the view was very disapionting and very restriced we could see into chamber maid store and food store considering the hotel looks over the loch and mountains, Also the walls were paper thin so you could hear next doors conversation and when their doors close your room shakes! We had breakfast included in our price. Dining room was good size but it could have been served in the bar to make use of the great views instead of looking over the car park as breakfast wasnt too busy but I can understand why they have it for high season in the summer. They had a limited choice on the buffet and cooked breakfast was as expected but could have offered some traditional scottish food (haggis e.t.c). Check out was quick and easy and we were on our way! good hotel, good price, good service just what we need for our short stay!

Stayed from 1 to 5 April with friends. As earlier reviewers have stated, the hotel has recently been refurbished with some work still to be done. Access for disabled/elderly guests will be improved by the addition of a lift later this year. This is also necessary internally, due to the unusual arrangement and number of stairs between floors. I believe some of the rooms have rather thin dividing walls, so you may need to have considerate neighbours. Hot water supply may also be a problem in some rooms. It can take some time for hot water to reach your room and there may be a problem with water pressure. However, I understand from the management that these water issues are to be addressed in the near future. These problems may only apply to the rooms situated in the rear extension.
You may think that my comments so far, are rather picky, and you would be right, since we found everything else about the hotel to be very good. The staff are most polite and can't seem to do enough to help you enjoy your stay. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were thoroughly serviced each day. Common areas, and rooms, have been tastefully decorated and the food of good quality and ample portions. The location is also good, being only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Once the current snags have been sorted out, I am sure this hotel will go from strength to strength and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Try it and see!

Room Tip: Good views at the front of the hotel. Possibly better sound insulation between rooms in older parts...

Stayed here with a group of friends who had completed the West Highland Way.
Fantastic location only 200metres from the finish and within easy walking distance of all the shops and restaurants. Very friendly staff. Hotel has been recently refurbished and many rooms have a fantastic view of the hills. Great value for money. I would recommend this hotel to anyone

Room Tip: Ask for room at the front especially on the 2nd floor for the best views.

I believe the hotel was taken over last year. The reception area , dining room and bar areas have been refurbished , decorated and are very pleasant and welcoming.
The room was good although situated at the back of the hotel with a wall for a view meant light had to be turned on early despite it being a lovely sunny day.
Staff were very pleasant and welcoming and room rate was exceptional.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at front of hotel for view of Loch Linnie otherwise rooms at back have wall right out...

This was a walk in booking and fairly late in the afternoon. There was no hesitation and the procedure was smooth and efficient. The Hotel is indicated as three star and although that may appear a bit generous at the moment I think that they are on their way to that rating.
This is what I would call a Fifty/Fifty Hotel. The hotel closed in November 2011 and has been (and is) in the process of being renovated. From my observations it seems that 50% is done the other 50% is either not started or not completed.
This is an old hotel and because of its age it has a problem (as do other hotels of this age) with water pressure and an inability in some instances to provide instant hot water. Some rooms are okay but the rest appear to have these water problems.
The reception area, bar and dining room were very well finished and when this building (which I presume is a listed building) is finished the renovations it will be an even pleasanter place to stay.
There is no elevator so luggage has to be carried up flights of stairs. I was offered assistance but it was not required but it was nice to know that the offer was made.
My room (151) had been recently renovated and was very well appointed. A very large ensuite and new furniture throughout. The only complaint we had about the room was that there was still an odour of paint, but not something that required a change of rooms.
Dinner was very reasonably priced and of excellent quality. A recommended place to eat. The breakfast was of good quality and quantity.
From recent posts it appears that previous to November 2011 this was not a place to stay, however I would only say this, try it again and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Room Tip: Dont judge this in 2012 by 2011 reviews
