This hotel is perhaps the worst value for money establishment we have ever encountered. The 95 pound a night rate (incl an av breakfast) - already discounted from the "normal" 110 pounds was worth no more than 50 pounds. We we were shown to the third floor in a small very old and substandard room at the rear facing a rock wall !

The lift installation was not yet completed despite what was advised on the web site, and we had a series of up and down stairs and narrow passage ways to navigate before reaching our room. It was unacceptable and we were told the only other room was a twin on the second floor which at least faced the sea. We took it! Again the room was cramped (and noisy). Faulty Towers readily comes to mind except that a redeeming feature was the particularly helpful staff member in our case but labouring under what I perceived was a very indifferent management attitude.

Upon checking out in the morning I expressed my view to the Duty Manager and another male guest who was checking out at the same time concurred. He said he was kept awake most of the night by bumps and noises - moreover he actually had paid full freight (110 pounds)!!

Not recommended at the price.

Room Tip: Avoid - better value elsewhere in Fort William

There is a nice facade but thats is it!!!

My student dorms looks and feels 10 times better.

There was a spring mattress which was just impossible to sleep on.

The walls are just way too thin!! You can hear the people in the next room _walking_ !!!. My friend couldn't sleep because the guy in the next room was snoring!!

There was a cut off cable coming out of the wall and hanging below the TV.

The ceiling in the bathroom was peeling off.

There was mold in the bathroom and that's a clear sanitary issue !!!

There were split taps (hot and cold) in the bathroom sink. I would expect that from a public toilet but not from a hotel room.

And all this in a hotel which charges 95£ per night. I would expect all this from a cheap motel for 30£ but not from a 95£ hotel.

The manager said he doesn't see how the last 4 issues affect my sleep and knocked off 15£ for the first two issues...

Bottom line: Just stay away. There are many better and cheaper hotels on the very same street.

On a family trip, we stayed at the Cruachan for only one night but were very impressed with our stay. The location is marvelous, with fantastic views from the front of the hotel especially at sunset. The hotel interior is well styled and clean, and our rooms were basic but comfortable and clean with all the amenities that you would expect. I enjoyed a good night sleep and a tasty breakfast in the morning, all the while in awe at the beautiful views. The staff were all friendly and available and I really couldn't fault my stay. There was no lift available as mentioned on here, but the staff were more than ready to help us with our bags should we need. A good choice for short trips to the highlands :)

the employees are nice but the infrastructure of the hotel is still in development so it seems.

cons:
- at 10pm a stranger entered our room with an actual working card for our room. The personnel excused this incedent as a system failure...
- walls are very thin. we could hear our neighbours talking all night.
- it is a 4 story hotel with no elevator and we were not offered help with our luggage
- compared with what we got it was too expensive
- from our room we had no view on anything but the neigbours garden

pros:
- the hotel is well situated and very close to the centre of the city.

overall:
room was clean, old bathroom with bath tub, small shelve very very soft beds.

I booked the hotel because of its location close to a very good fish restaurant. The hotel is OK for one night, but suffers from a lack of sound proofing which means you can hear noises from the occupiers of the adjoining room. At the time of our stay building work were taking place. Currently no lift and the room allocated was at the very far end of the building, up several flights of stairs, which made it difficult to access. Dining room dull and gloomy.

Room Tip: Reserve a room on the front with a view.
