“Good Value”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

This is the 4th Strathmore Hotel that my wife and myself have stayed in. As a three crown we are always satisfied and happy that you get good value for money. This hotel is well sited to explore this area of the west coast. Our room though tired was very clean and stocked daily with biscuits, coffee, hot chocolate, teas and milk always there for your return from exploring. Our bathroom had a fantastic shower, and there was a large flat screen TV in the room. The bed was very comfy for us. One point for management, some pictures in the room would be nice. Breakfast was buffet with a wide variety and plentiful to sustain you throughout the day. There was choice of full Scottish cooked breakfast, croissants, toast, meats, fresh fruits and cereals. The choice is endless. Dinner was three course served at the table with a good choice on the menu, vegetables and potatoes were served on the side. Our only issue was with the cod/haddock which was best described as "chewy". The chefs own chilli and steak pie was simply the best. I cannot comment on the pool as chemicals in the water bring me out in hives, so it was not used by us. Free WiFi in the lounge was a bonus. PS Staff were always smiling during our visit.

Room Tip: We were in room 2 and happy with it.

Arrived for 2 nights at this hotel, check in was fine, staff knowledgeable and helpful. Our room was in the adjoining building. The room was fine, clean and well appointed, bed vey comfy. Unfortunately the rooms are not double glazed so don't fancy staying in winter! Bathroom could do with a spruce up there was black mould on the ceiling and the grouting was tired. We had booked a dinner, b&b deal over the internet but wish we hadn't bothered with the evening meal mediocre is the best I can describe it. My hubby had a venison terrine for starter but when it came it had obviously been plated up some time earlier so was dried around the edges. We both had roast beef that was obviously bought in pre sliced then reheated and portion was quite small too! Roast potatoes and swede were lovely though. Pudding was also a bought in gateaux sliced up with 2 raspberries and a trickle of chocolate sauce poured over.
On the positive side the buffet breakfast was very tasty and had plenty of choices from the continental side and the traditional full Scottish. The black pudding is delicious!
Staff were polite and helpful.
The location and view from the hotel is also spectacular.
In general for the price I would've expected the place not to be so tired looking in communal areas.
Oh and don't even bother with wifi-it's chronic if you can get on at all and only available in the bar/lounge area apparently but neither my hubby nor myself had much luck!!!!
Im pretty sure there are better hotels in Fort William.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us.

You may have seen from pervious replies we have made that we do have a refurbishment programme in place, which does include new windows, bathrooms etc., unfortunately due to the size of Hotel we are, it does take time to complete.

We note you comments regarding dinner and offer our apologies for disappointing you, we do make as much as possible in house which does include roasting meats ourselves.

We are looking at our internet connection and will have engineers onsite shortly to check connection speeds etc. We hope that they will be able to suggest improvements to our Head Office on what we can do to better this free service.

This hotel is set in a beautiful location we stayed here for two nights on our travels though Scotland doing some exploring,
The rooms here are clean an tidy but could do with some updating, the staff were friendly and breakfast was a good selection,
The swimming pool and Jacuzzi is a nice treat after hiking up some mountains during the day, they also excepted dogs when we visited was very useful they have large grass areas outside so I didn't need to go far after dark to let buster out before bed.

I stayed here one night and while the building was a little sad and dated (decor worn and drab), and the staff could smile more (only the receptionist smiled at me in my time there) it was worth it as I had the pool/steam room and whirlpool to myself in the evening and the morning. I loved it - very relaxing and made up for the rest. The bed was comfy, the room quiet and I slept well, and breakfast was good - apart from aforementioned lack of smiles!

Although this hotel was a good half mile or more from the start of the Great Glen Way, it'd be churlish to gripe about this when you're embarking on a walk of over 70 miles. The rooms were basic but functional, and we got a good breakfast in the morning. A welcome feature was the hotel's willingness to let us leave our vehicle there for the duration of our walk (six days).
Staff were helpful and professional, and the leisure facilities were impressive. Not exactly the Dorchester, but ahead of an outdoor holiday, a good starting point.

Good base hotel although a bit away from town centre. Room was lovely and clean with two big comfy chairs so you can watch tv in comfort. Staff were friendly in all areas, breakfast was plentiful and hot. 25 meter pool in the leisure club as well as a sauna, jacuzzi and gym.

Was on holiday with a large group of friends. Yes the rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable though could do with a bit TLC. The pool and jacuzzi was good (didn't go near the gym so cant comment). Staff were very good and attentive and Fun. The 2 nights of entertainment was enjoyable but being a big group we were accommodated very well.
The Food was excellent.the buffet breakfast had a wide variety of foods and AMPLE. The evening meals were excellent with a wide choice and delicious. Yes it is out the main town but close to the distillery! The taxis were very reasonable in price for distances travelled and the drivers were very friendly. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room and the sound insulation from above could have been better.
