“Fort Willy Wonder”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

A fabulous, traditional stone built house circa 1878, located on the shore of Loch Linnhe in Fort William in the highlands of Scotland. Only a 5 min stroll into Fort William town centre. This is a quiet retreat from the tourist mad crowds of major U.K. cities, truly a delightful experience. We were two couples from west coast Canada stopping in Fort William for a planned excursion on the Jacobite Train Trip from Fort William to Mallig. We each booked a separate room with ensuite and were delighted with the accommodation and the way we were greeted by hosts Stuart and Lorna. The house has a great ambience, fine decor tastefully done and full of character. The village type town centre is a quick walk and the ruins of the old fort about another 10 minute walk away. From the common room facing the Loch you will take in spectacular views of the shoreline and surrounding terrain, simply beautiful and ever changing. We slept well on comfortable beds and our room on the ground floor was very quiet. Bathroom was clean, neat and hot showers with ample pressure. An area off the common room is designated for breakfast and again beautiful vistas of the Loch can be seen. Additionally, the breakfast was a treat, tasty, more than you will be able to eat and service was tops. Wifi was available and we had no difficulty picking up signal from our room or common room. In the evening we toured the town and a small historic church and ate at great food at the Grog and Gruel pub nearby. We appreciated the special touch Stuart and Lorna provided and the opportunity to see their cool kitchen and the huge stove they cook breakfast on for all their guests. Ample (Free) parking on gravel driveway beside the house was appreciated. This is a must stay location for a visit to Fort William especially for those inclined to enjoy the outdoors surrounding Fort William. We thought the price point was reasonable and extremely good value for the money spent. We strongly recommend this place to others.

Room Tip: We liked being on ground floor and close to the common room, access to coffee and tea and spectacula...

This was a very pleasant stay in a beautiful house on the shores of the Loch, just on the edge of the town centre. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and finished to a very high standard. The hosts were very accommodating of our needs (we were on our way to John O'Groats by bike), an we really enjoyed the excellent breakfast overlooking the Loch in the sunshine - a perfect stay. I will definitely return with the family (if not the bike!). Many thanks
Tom

If you are in Fort William then this is the place to stay. Terrific hosts and a short walk into the high street. The view from our window in the front of the house was first rate...try and get a front facing room...wonderful host and hostess and nothing was too much trouble...

Stuart & Lorna run a wonderful establishment, great hosting skills & make everyone feel special & welcome. Rooms are very clean, comfortable & well laid out. Breakfast is hearty, wholesome & can even be healthy! Set up for the day whether hiking or touring. This is the sort of place I would rush back to if I was staying in Fort William again

We stayed here for 5 nights whilst touring the Highlands, from the moment we arrived we loved the place our room was big, as was our bathroom. Lorna and Stuart are great hosts and looked after us fantastically. Breakfast's in the conservatory were great with plenty of choice. We went with a couple who had used the place before and they told us we wouldn't be disappointed, I glad to say they were right, we would recommend this great guest house to anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Buccleuch Guest House. Stuart and Lorna made us feel right at home and took very good care of us. Stuart even drove us to the train station on our last morning and Lorna gave us a packed breakfast to take along. We arrived early and expected to have to wait for our room, but it was ready. (We did let them know ahead of time when we would be arriving.) And what a wonderful room it was! Huge and beautifully decorated, and the bathroom was enormous with a marvelous tub and shower. If you can get the ground floor room facing the loch, you will be very happy indeed. I spent my early summers on a lake and I love being able to watch the changing moods of the water. Breakfasts are in two shifts, an early and a late one, and there are several cooked to order items, as well as packaged cakes, crackers, yogurt, cheese, fresh fruit, etc. on a buffet. Buccleuch is an easy walking distance from the town and the various pubs and shops. We heartily recommend it to travelers looking for a lovely room and a friendly welcome.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of Loch Linnhe. The one on the ground floor has a wonderful big bathr...

This is a wee gem of a place in Fort William. Comfortable beds, stylish rooms and a lovely conservatory where breakfast is served. The young lady who helps with breakfast is Lorna the owner is a lovely land lady and looks after you as if you were a long lost friend. Breakfast is extensive and all cooked items are cooked to order. If you are looking for a great location, with private parking and is walking distance to the town centre, look no further as the Buccleuch has everything you are looking for.
