“Good lodges, lovely setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

We stayed in Onich in May and were treated to some stunning scenery. The lodges are not quite luxury but more than adequate for families and friends. The wifi was very temperamental but the scenery means you should be outdoors anyway! The midges are a bit of a nightmare however.

I would recommend staying here.

We stayed at Birchbrae from Saturday 19 July until Wednesday 23 July 2014 and were visiting from North East England.

When we arrived (early), our lodge (5) had been cleaned and was being prepared for our arrival. John met us as we were moving our cases into the lodge and checked that everything was to our satisfaction.

The lodge itself was spacious (even for 6 adults), clean, well equipped and very comfortable. We were also able to park both cars easily outside the lodge. The 3 bedrooms were all good sizes, all with plenty of room for storage and to hang clothes etc. The showers were also modern and decent sizes.

There are several pubs/restaurants within walking distance of the lodges, and lots of activities to do on your doorstep. We used Birchbrae as our base for doing several walks and climbing Ben Nevis, and it was an ideal location as it was only a short 20 minute drive up to Fort William.

What I was most impressed with about the lodges was the information centre outside of our lodge. Inside the information centre there are a multitude of DVDs, tourist information guides, books, takeaway menus and local information leaflets. This, coupled with the excellent guide that John has put together inside the lodges (with ideas for walks and trips etc) meant that we were able to plan and make the most of our trip.

We had a fantastic time, and would recommend the lodges to anyone wanting to tackle Ben Nevis or for a long weekend break.

Stayed 3 nights in a 3 bedroomed cabin with 3 teenagers. Although its a good 10 minuite drive from Fort William its worth the journey. The cabin was well equipped and very comfortable and the scenery around the area was spectacular.

Stayed for 3 nights at the lodges and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The lodges are very well appointed with every comfort provided. We had wonderful meals nearby in Fort William at the Crannog Seafood restaurant and the Lime Tree restaurant and an exquisite seafood meal at the Lochleven seafood cafe.
Sadly didn't see the Pine Martins but left toast and jam for them which disappeared overnight so hope they enjoyed!
Only downside was poor weather but otherwise can't think of anywhere more lovely.

Had a fantastic weekend. The lodges are beautiful, well kept, and in a great location.

For someone with a young family or elderly relatives, these lodges are ideal. Ive stayed in other places around this area, and what makes it so good is the quietness. No backpackers, stag parties, etc.

Will be booking up for next year. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

Stayed in May. Very comfortable, spacious and well equipped lodge in a great location and easy driving distance of lots of things to do. Good places to walk to nearby also. My only gripes would be 2 very minor ones. 1. Use of the word 'luxury' it was a good lodge and good value. It wasn't luxurious though, so over promised and under delivered a bit on that score. There are more accurate words which could be used which wouldn't detract from how good it was. Luxury it wasn't. Sorry.
2. A lot of condensation and the very beginnings of dampness problems were apparent. Not a major issue YET but the Humidifier was not effective In any way.

Overall though. Very pleased and pretty decent value for money.

These lodges are fantastic. I could quite easily live in one. They are lovely and spacious. They are in a quiet location with plenty of wildlife around. I kept my eye out for'rusty' the resident squirrel but unfortunately never got to see him, but the little birds made up for that. Would recommend these lodges to anyone but the only thing I'd say is that they are abit far out. The only place you could get to without needing a car was the inn at ardgour which was easily accessible via the corran ferry. Highly recommend going on the Jacobite stream train which goes from fort William to mallaig (it goes across the viaduct which was in the Harry Potter films for any fans out there). Overall this was a really great break away, will definitely go back!
