Now, it’s not as bad as some of the reviews, no. After a long drive, you turn up at a downtrodden edifice, certainly 1st impressions aren’t looking positive, however vanity is allegedly only skin deep. I think it is fair to say you would expect a cheery welcome on arrival, well don’t expect that - staff are neither happy or sad to see you, it’s like checking into an asylum and the receptionist is the patient.

Room was kind of acceptable, 4 white walls, 1970s net curtains, a lcd tv plonked on a dressing table, no pictures on the walls. It took the shower some 3m to gain a modicum of warmth, even then it best described as lukewarm.

I ate in the hotel, I was attracted by the description: The Restaurant at the Kyle Hotel, offers classic British and traditional Scottish cuisine, specialising in fresh, locally sourced seafood and produce.

Let’s dissect that - no smoked salmon left, deep fried breaded prawns, scampi, fish & chips, langoustines or salmon steak - hardly specialising in fresh, locally sourced seafood, possibly 3 things out of the freezer cabinet you could get in Iceland.

TV was blaring away in bar with 1 person watching the football, to be fair what I had to eat was all right, not exceptional.

If you look at the hotel website, the room picture is no where near what to expect - so don’t get too excited, as I said it’s 3 star hotel, possibility cheaper than Skye, but you get what you pay for, having said that, I would of expected a bit more for £115.00 a night..

Stayed here with my colleagues whilst on business up north. It had been a very long day and we were all tired and needing to unwind. The hotel has a bright dining room and a small bar area with a good selection of beers and spirits. The food was lovely with generous portions. The room was very clean and very comfortable. The Ritz it isn't, but it is the perfect place to explore one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is also excellent and there's plenty of choice available including Stornoway black pudding. Yum. Would definitely stay here again.

This is a small hotel in the centre of the town very handy for the railway station a short walk away.
Our room, a twin was quite small, as was the en suite bathroom but it was vary clean and everything worked.
The reception staff was very friendly, and looked after our cases during the morning whilst we had a stroll round the town before catching our train.
The restaurant was excellent, the food being spot on and a very short wait after ordering.
We only had a one night stay there but would definitely return there again.

Booked for 2 nights but it was so awful I was willing to sleep in the car than spend a second night here so left after one night. Luckily got another place in lovely hotel in Portree. Smelly,Filthy, hot, depressing place. Unknown stains over carpet and walls. Squashed insects, embedded hairs and a window that wouldn’t open to let in some badly needed fresh air.Awful food and even worse bed as the mattress sloped outwards so only stayed in it by holding onto the bedside cabinet all night. No need to repeat the manynegative comments in the reviews on here - they are accurate. Disbelieve them all at your peril! Book early to ensure you do not have to stay here.

Room Tip: Are there good rooms?

Stayed here in Mid-October. Nice size room and bathroom, apparently an upgrade as it was larger than some of the the others we saw being cleaned. The jets in the tub did not work and the outside of the tub was cracked and coming apart. Nice people and the restaurant did a good job on breakfast. Location is very convenient for those that don't want to stay on Isle of Skye.
