Owner description: Many people believe that this brooding lake in Northern Scotland, 21 square miles in size at an average depth of 800 feet, could certainly hide a large dinosaur-like "monster," the lake's long-time and elusive resident.

“It is a tourist area - but you have to do it.”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

We took a 1 hour cruise (Freedom cruise) and visited Urquhart Castle. We suggest driving down the loch and doing this. It was a beautiful drive and a short boat ride. No Nessie sightings although the gift shop at the Clansman Harbour has everything Nessie.

“Spectacular, simply spectacular.”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Whether or not Nessie lives here, this place is simply spectacular. It is like a great jewel that nature has created in an awe inspiring setting. The waters have a dark and intriguing hue to them and the hills surrounding the lake lend the landscape so much character.

Don't miss the boat ride.

And if you are really luck, you might even catch a Royal Airforce Tornado fighter jet thundering across in the sky above.

“Don't blink... you might miss Nessie!”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Loch Ness is a stunning waterway, but for those expecting lots of "Nessie" sighting opportunities, it's probably worth knowing that the little town of Drumnadrochit has no views of the loch and there's not as much 'Monster-related' tourism and you might be expecting. Loch Ness is long and there are lots of chances for lovely photos of the water and mountains that surround it, but you'll need to go to the hotel and souvenir shop that is outside the town if you hope to get a photo opportunity with the "Nessie" statue that is there

“Heaven on earth”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

The best tour you can imagine. I booked mine through Rabbie's tour. It was a 12 hour tour leaving Edinburgh with a small van of a total of 10 people. The driver and the tour guide were extremely helpful and well aware.

The scottish music and the highlands with the tour stopping every few stops to take pictures, snacks, etc was perfect.

The perfect day to relax and enjoy the nature.

The weather was absolutely amazing in May, I had clear skies and could see the three peaks of the highlands which is a rarity. If you have a chance, stay a night in the highlands.

Experience of a lifetime.

“Stereotypical tourist trap!”
Reviewed 8 July 2014 via mobile

What a shame Loch Ness, Drumnadrochit and Urquhart Castle have fallen into the tatty tourist trap. If you want tatty Christmas ornaments of Nessie, tartan hats, research your heritage etc then this is the place for you. what a disappointment it was. I've been to Loch Ness several times over the years and yes its stunning but its getting completely overshadowed by the tatty tourist shops. The supposed 5 star "Exhibitions" that you pay a fortune to get in to are a joke. You'd probably be better googling Loch Ness, you'll be getting more information than you do as these so called visitor centres.
On the way back we stopped off at one of the laybys and walked down the steps to the Loch itself. This was more entertaining than Drumnadrochit had been.
