Owner description: A romantic fairy-tale castle that has been the home of the Thanes of Cawdor since 1370, Cawdor has evolved into a charming family mansion and the most outstanding of stately homes. The dramatic medieval tower, dungeon, turrets, battlements and drawbridge, belie an enchanting interior of fine art, tapestries and furniture which create the warm and welcoming feel of a home rather than a museum. The castle, set in stunning grounds with three beautiful and varied gardens, is surrounded by the magnificent Cawdor Big Wood, one of the finest woodland areas in Europe, threaded with colour coded nature trails to explore.Visitors are invited to enjoy a delicious lunch or tea with home-baking from our mouth-watering menu in the courtyard café, then browse the exciting range of gifts and goodies in our three shops and, time permitting, have fun on the putting green and short 9-hole golf course which provides enjoyment for all standards.

“Lovely castle”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

Nestled in gorgeous surroundings the castle is impressive. It is actually still occupied by the family which gave it a lived in feeling. Doesn't take long to get around as not that many rooms on display. Gardens were nice

“A Super Castle”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

Whilst this is not the very oldest type of castle it is very interesting and well worth a visit.
Everything is easy to get around, assuming you like walking - but as a part of it is still lived in you don't get to see it all, whch we were a little dissapointed about. The rooms are interesting and well laid out.
The gardens were beautiful in July and worth a visit on their own. There are also various nature trail walks throughout the grounds from half a mile to five miles.
Overall it was a really interesting castle, not unique but well worth a visit.

Very highly recommended. Castle is fascinating & able to walk around the rooms, then head outside into the gardens. Cafe is very nice & all staff were very friendly. Good parking on site.

“Interesting Home/castle with intriguing family history!”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

Amazing to think this castle is still lived in during the winter and the Countess helps in the cafe! Really impressive artworks and furniture pieces and lovely guides to explain the history. Really worthwhile
