We are a couple from near Cologne and have toured Scotland on various occasions before and can thus make an objective statement as to the quality of family-run B&Bs. Argathnie and its lovely, charming and most hospitable, warm-hearted owners, Pat and Jim are clearly on the top of the list of all the B&Bs throughout the UK that we can sincerely and thoroughly recommend – in particular to the more discerning guests.
As soon as we entered the house, we were greeted with a genuine and extremely cordial smile by Pat. Both Pat and her friendly and humorous husband Jim really went out of their way to accommodate and anticipate all our needs. They even provided us with a map of Scotland and various brochures on rewarding tourist sights along the Moray Coast which proved to be quite useful. Both rooms we stayed in (a double room on the first night and the twin-room for the subsequent three nights) were comfortable, cosy, most tastefully furnished and the twin-room in particular was very spacious with a shower room en-suite.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious and included some delectable home-made jams of an exquisite variety of fruits.
Best of all: the friendly owners recommended we attend a genuine Ceilidh, i.e. an evening of entertainment with Scots traditional, folk and Gaelic music, fiddlers, pipers and highland dancing held in the Royal British Legion Hall in Nairn every Thursday from mid June to mid September (see www.nairnceilidhgroup.org.uk) . We had a whale of a time and were taught the first amateurish steps of the Scottish Reel dance (admittedly with unfaltering patience on the part of the experienced local dancers). We were given a most cordial welcome and greeted like old friends by the organizers of the event. While in the area, this is definitely an event not to be missed. All things considered, Argathnie is a superb, top-quality B&B in Nairn
which we would very much like to visit again in the near future. Don´t look anywhere else in the area. This is the place to go! A big thank you to Pat and Jim for their outstanding hospitality and for sending us a kind e-mail to see whether we have arrived sound and safe back home.
