“Hay Lodge in Nairn....look no further.”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Many thanks to Marion and Terry for their hospitality in their super home. Hay Lodge is ideally situated in the middle of Nairn, close to restaurants, pubs, the links, river, harbour and beaches. Twin room was perfect for us and provided superb views to the East Beach and across the Moray Firth. Room was fresh, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfasts were excellent and all bases covered, from crispy bacon to fresh croissants. Having been visiting Nairn for over 30 years, I would have no reservations in recommending Hay Lodge to all.

P.S. I'm still sure that fish is a piranha !!

Room Tip: Twin room at the top of the house provides wonderful views.

We only stayed for one night during our Scotland road trip but we have kept a note of this B&B because we will definitely stay again when we are in the area.

Our room was huge, spotlessly clean and well appointed.
Don't be put off by the shared bathroom - you only share it with one other room and during our stay the person in that room shared the other bathroom with his fellow traveller.
The bathroom is big enough to be a bedroom in its own right and is also immaculately clean.

The hosts are very hospital and nothing is too much trouble for them.

The breakfast was plentiful. We had the cooked breakfast with fresh fruit and as much tea and coffee as we wanted.

All in all, great value and we will definitely be back.

(We rarely write reviews but felt that this place really warranted our praise)

PS Ask to see Boris the Bird who is a tame Seagull who lives at the Hay Lodge (Outside)

We stayed for a week in the self-catering apartment at Hay Lodge. Unusually, it is for two people (most cottages are for larger groups). It was excellent - a kitchen/lounge/dining room with TV downstairs and a bedroom (with a small TV) and separate bathroom/shower upstairs. Everything was spotlessly clean on arrival and Marion and Terry gave us a short tour to be sure we were familiar with all the facilities.

The accommodation is very central to Nairn, which is a good centre for touring the area and its attractions, artificial and natural. We enjoyed the outside table and chairs when it was sunny, and to have off-street parking was valuable.

The only faults we could find were very minor - a slightly tight space for the dining table, a parking area whose curved wall almost led to a scrape more than once, and lack of a radio (you could use Freeview but in the evenings, some stations did not operate to allow a Scottish TV channel).

We were also impressed that a freezer has been installed in the downstairs cupboard - very useful if you bring your own meals or even when buying locally.

We have booked a further visit and would recommend Hay Lodge strongly.

We had a lovely stay at Hay Lodge and Marion and Terry were very friendly and helpful. Had a couple of meals across the road at the Havelock Pub and even managed to come last in the pub quiz!
The double room was nicely decorated, as was the whole house, and we enjoyed our couple of days exploring Nairn. The breakfast choice was good and set us up for the day. We would recommend anyone who wants a central location near the beach to stay here.

My Partner and two young children stayed for 3 nights. We were in a beautiful room and Marion was very accomodating and made us feel very very welcome. The Breakfast was lovely. The bathroom was large and we didn't have any problems sharing. It was really clean and tidy. Marion and Terry were really friendly and always asked about our day. Thank you, would definitely recommend and stay again.

My husband and I stayed here for our 1st wedding anniversary on the 1st July 2013. We stayed in the double room which is huge, lovely fireplace and is beautifully decorated, as is the whole house. It was not a problem having to share such a wonderful bathroom which was also huge and had a large shower and a lovely fireplace, yes in the bathroom! The breakfast was amazing, lots of choice and as much tea, coffee and toast that you wanted. The hostess Marion was lovely, nothing ever seemed too much trouble. Thank you for sharing your beautiful house with us, we hope to visit again. Gary and Marieann McNamee

Stayed at Hay Lodge in Nairn for four nights. What an excellent find! We had the large double room with king sized bed and our daughters shared the twin. Our room was light, bright and even had a sofa.

One of the best parts of the stay were the fantastic breakfasts that set you up for the day. You had a very comprehensive choice of either continental (including croissants!) or a full English with cereal and fresh fruit to start! The table was positively heaving with all the lovely selection to chose from. Maureen and her husband were excellent hosts, not hovering over us too much but at the same time ensuring we had sufficient of everything as and when we needed topping up with tea or toast.

There was plenty of hot water too for scorching showers in the large shower and they also kindly lent us umbrellas to cope with the rain. Hair dryer and iron were also on hand when asked.

Location was good for both the High Street, beach or bus station. Would definitely stay here again if we return.

All in all a great stay and made to feel very welcome - which sadly was not the case for some of our other family members who stayed elsewhere in Nairn so choose carefully as not all B&B's are so good but can definitely recommend this one!

Room Tip: The double room was excellent.
