Sub standard food and service!no drinks at table no selection of wine available. The food was just edible except the beef which was like old leather and was no chewable and difficult to cut. On passing the a la cart menu we noted food covered with foil sitting on an off hot plate ,the general feel on the plastic table cloths and bar tables was sticky,ie poor hygeine throughout.

“Worst Dining Experience Ever!”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

Organised a meal for four adults on the last night of our holiday in the Highlands. To cut a long story short three of the meals were inedible and had to be returned. The other meal was edible but only just. We ordered two starters that were more or less an expensive small salad. Asked to speak to the manager but it looked like he had either done a runner or couldn't be bothered to speak to his customers. As a result the young barman took the complaint and dealt with it superbly so well done to him and he is a credit to the hotel. Got our money back on three main courses. We moved ship to Mr Tan's Chinese carry out in the High Street and got great food and cheery service from the man himself. I wish we had went there in the first place. We'll never be back to the Windsor nor would I recommend it under any circumstances.

“CARVERY”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

We visited the Windsor Hotel, Nairn for Sunday carvery today - our fourth visit since these carverys began. A cheery barmaid greeted us, poured our drinks, gave us our carvery tickets and showed us to our table. The chef eventually appeared and offered us roast turkey and/or roast gammon - both meats were fine - but I'm afraid that's where it stops. There was a dish of what looked like broccoli in a sauce, which was conjealed, so I asked if we could have some fresh veg. This came, and was a stodgy mess with what looked like a very thick sauce. On trying this I discovered it was, in fact, broccoli and cauliflower in a sauce, but the vegetables had, to put it mildly, been murdered! This was not even hot, although it was supposed to have been freshly produced. Roast potatoes, mash, carrots and peas were also cold. We did report this to both waitresses who came to see if we were happy with the meals, and both said they would inform the chef, but that was the end of the matter. No offer of any recompense was made, and we left, both saying it would be our last visit. I appreciate these meals are being provided at a very reasonable price, but food temperatures are extremely important. On leaving another couple of clients also complained about the cold food. There has certainly been a decline over our visits, which is most disappointing.

“Great value for money”
Reviewed 5 April 2012

Windsor Hotel are now offering carvery meals on Saturdays and Sundays. These are excellent value for money and were hot and enjoyable. One takes their seat and when ready goes to a serving counter where the Chef serves the carvery and then the customer helps themselves to vegetables etc. The room was very busy with couples and families. It does seem child friendly and would be even better if the hotel did supply some printed sheets for children to colour in while waiting for food as its at this point they tend to become bored and there is not enough space to run around.

There is a lounge just to the left of the main door where one can sit until one is ready to go and eat. Then one puts their name to the Bar staff and can order drinks at the same time. At the time the Bar staff were new and unable to cope with the demand or manage the change situation however, by now, I would expect they have received training

I would eat there again and recommend it to anyone who is in the area at the weekend and looking for an inexpensive meal which is filling and enjoyable....

“Horrific Service, Horrific Food, CHEAP PRICES”
Reviewed 1 February 2012

I only give this a two because of the price paid.

Firstly we were greeted, or not, by no-one. We stood around for 5 minutes before approaching the man at reception who did not so much as look up as our party of 9 came in. Having hovered around his counter for a few minutes he waved at the bar area which we all walked too and again stood around for a while wondering when someone may greet us and ask our booking name before showing us to our table.

No one did, so we meandered through to a room which looked like it had tables before a man rushed over and told us to go the other way. Did not show us the other way but just waved his hand in that direction.

We went through to a completely empty room and were shown a table with not enough seats and no cutlery. After a short while he gave us another seat and stole knives and forks from other tables before vanishing.

From there we sat and chatted for 30 minutes. No explanations, no drinks orders, nothing. Then finally a very hing over looking Chef came out to serve us the carvery which consisted of a wrinkled dried up looking bit of beef and a cheap crown of turkey, which was at least moist.

We went up to get served and despite asking for a vegan option 2 months before when we booked and the day before we arrived, there was none. The chef cursed, went into the kitchen and came back with a plate of olives and sliced onions.

We helped ourselves to the deep fried potatoes and boiled for 7 days veg before sitting back down to chew on some ancient beef. No condiments, no drinks, nothing.

At no point did anyone ask us if our meal was OK or if we needed anything else.

We sat around after the meal for 15 minutes waiting, then finally when someone showed his face we asked about desert. This was delivered slowly, and without spoons....

Overall it was terrible, horrific, and would never go again, ever.
