We stayed with two other couples in early October and had a thoroughly enjoyable break. The staff were friendly efficient and helpful and each couple felt their room to be very comfortable. The other 2 couples had newly redecorated and refurbished rooms with sea views.
. In a way we drew the short straw with a room without a sea view but we were up in the tree canopy at the rear of the hotel and the 3 windows in the room made it very bright. The road outside is quiet so traffic was not a problem.
We ate in each night and very much enjoyed the taster menu--all 7 elements of it.
The weather was kind so we golfed and walked, and then unwound in the hotel's very clean and well equipped pool area. I would definitely return to this hotel. Superb value for money in a lovely setting

Room Tip: You could ask for a sea view but we were not disappointed by our corner suite at the rear which was...

Just back from a 3 day visit. If I had written this report after day 2 my comments would ,in the main, have been positive. The room had a wonderful view across to the Black Isle, the pool etc was relaxing and the meals well cooked and efficiently served. Then came day 3 and the evening meal !!!
We were on the Taster Menu which can be a little difficult to appreciate at first glance or even first taste. But stick with it and there are sompleasant (small )taste surprises. However sitting for 2 hours and still waiting for course 5 gave us plenty of time to watch the inefficiencies of the restaurant unfold in front of our eyes.
The following day I arranged to meet the General Manager to voice my concerns and took the opportunity to outline the previous night's failings
and ,with his permission and with my brass neck,to outline what needed to be done to rectify these major faults. These revolved round appointing a Restaurant Manager. :- to supervise the welcome and planned seating of guests. to organise the proper training of the inexperienced but pleasant young waiting staff
to manage the room ,particularly at busy periods , by taking appropriate and proactive action to avoid unnecessary delays
to liaise with the Kitchen Staff to ensure an efficient flow of order information and subsequent delivery

And I did not even charge a consultancy fee !!

The General Manager intimated that such an appointment was imminent and we parted on friendly terms. Of course the proof of the pudding lies in the eating so I will watch future reports with considerable interest.

We were taken for dinner by family who could ill afford it and found the whole experience embarrassing.
On arrival we were all left carrying our coats to our table and no one even thought to offer to take them from us. Eventually we had to ask.

Bread was brought next and one tiny piece was placed on each plate.
We chose the set menu, so pate came first. It was served in a Chinese soup spoon with nothing to go with it. By this time everyone had eaten their bread, so we had no choice but to eat the pate alone, as no waitress could be hailed and none thought to bring more bread.

The crab and mussel cake with thai chilli jelly was dry and tasteless, certainly lacking salt, and chilly jelly which was in three minute drops on the plate.
The tomato soup was served in a child's tea service size cup but was very tasty.

The duck was tough, undercooked and tasteless. The portion sizes were tiny and although they were fine for the ladies in the party the men was not very impressed. People do over eat today, but these portions really were too small.

Pudding was served before the cheese (the wrong way around, as cheese accompanies the red wine and pudding finishes the meal on a sweet note). The fruit crumble was very green and acidic although the accompanying ginger ice cream was fine although lacking enough ginger.

The 'cheese taster' was a pound coin sized tartlet of cheese pastry with a dod of cheese on top. It was greasy and very cheesy, totally the wrong note on which to end a meal.

There was no ambiance in the dining room and the waitress, while pleasant enough, would have been more at home in the chippy. She lacked training and was a disgrace to the management team who should have seen to this. Addressing guests as "yous", being asked for water three times and never bringing it and being so totally clueless is not what we expect for somewhere which claims to be four star.

Total waste of money. Never again.
We dined in the dining room, the name of which I forget, not in the bar or conservatory.

Our apologies on this occasion that the meal in the Fairways restaurant did not meet your standards. If made aware at the time of your preferences I am certain that the outcome would have been different. Thank you for your feedback.

This is a bit of a mixed review in all honesty.
I booked a Whisky package including a stay in the hotel as well as a trip to the distillery, but that's where it starts getting mixed.
The rooms were large, clean and well appointed, however could maybe do with a bit of updating and upgrading - the Spa facilities were great to be honest with lots of space and equipment, as well as the surprisingly nice experience of an outdoor hottub in October!
Dinner was a taster menu - my advice? Avoid at all cost if you are more than a sparrow, I understand there were 6 courses, however when 2 of these were less than a mouthful, the soup course was served in an Espresso cup and the Dessert was a sliver of cheesecake it still wouldn't be enough to fill the average adult.
Making up for this was the breakfast, buffet style for cereal, fruit juices, fruit, etc. But table service for the hot breakfast, which meant this was freshly cooked and admittedly delicious and dare i say filling!
The package included the distillery tour, but be prepared to drive the 10 or so miles there (and back after the tasting!!!). The drams after dinner were not forthcoming and had to be requested despite being part of the package and were not from the distillery on the tour as promised as the hotel didn't have any.
As the title suggests, overall Good but not Great

Thank you for your review.

Whilst your overall review was favourable I note that the 6 course taster menu was not to your liking. This menu when not part of a package is priced at £32.95 which does represent value for money. As a taster menu it is representative of our more extensive a la carte menu.

I have spoken to the staff concerned regarding the whisky you should have received as we have miniatures on site for this very purpose.

Thank you again.

Just back from a two night break ,booked through Hotel Connexions for my wifes birthday. Checked Trip Advisor after booking ( not the smartest thing to do ) Must admit having read some of the comments I was slightly worried. WRONG !! What a lovely friendly ,and well run hotel. Had the taster menu on Friday ,and the a la carte on Saturday. Both meals were excellent with service to match. We were also very lucky with the weather, bright autumnal sunny days. As a signature member of Hotel Connexions we received a room upgrade to a four poster sea view room. All in all a super break at a super location. Thanks to all for making my wifes birthday a bit more special.

Visited this hotel for a couple of nights last week with a group of friends. It was a lovely surprise to discover we had been upgraded to a 4 poster room with sea views! Our friends were also very happy with their rooms. Dinner was a 6 course taster menu, which was very tasty and beautifully presented by pleasant, helpful staff. Although the individual courses were admittedly small, we had all had enough to eat by the time we reached course No. 6! Our package was for 2 nights DB&B, including a visit to the new Culloden Visitor Centre. We were also very impressed by the pool and spa facilities - a lovely pool with views out to the beach, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The outdoor hot tub was unfortunately out of action, but we were perfectly happy with the available facilities.

The cooked breakfast was very good too, so overall we were delighted with everything, and hope to return soon.

Room Tip: Worth asking for a sea view room.

Country hotel feel, bit upmarket, obviously geared up for golf tourists - 5 mins from the links course. Staff very friendly and helpful. Reception clean and fresh. Room good size with large bed and couch. Quality furniture and fittings, all clean. Spa fairly new, and gym got reasonable selection of equipment and weights. Close to beach for walks - great views. Pool warm, with outside jacuzzi - great views over Moray Firth. Our room overlooked front car park, so couldn't view the golf course, or the sea :(. Breakfast decent, freshly cooked. Didn't eat here, so no comment on dinner. First anniversary gift from family, via Groupon, but no problems. Would go again...

Room Tip: Ask for sea view
