We have stayed at the Golf Hotel on several occasions and never been disappointed.
Our latest visit was just as enjoyable despite there being a problem with the water boiler which resulted in a lack of hot water. The receptionist, Claire, handled the matter efficiently and professionally, and the issue was resolved to our satisfaction.
Crerar has introduced a 6 course tasting menu throughout their hotels. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent although the portion control of two of the courses was rather meagre even for a tasting menu. Half a quail's egg for the first course is taking portion control a bit far. This is an innovative move by Crerar and, whilst we enjoyed the dining experience, it will not be to everyone's liking especially if you are a
big eater.
Service was reasonable although the young waiting staff lacked direction at times. There did not appear to be one person in overall charge but it did not cause any major problems and is an issue which can be easily
resolved.
There are issues which have to be addressed by management but we would have no hesitation in recommending the Golf View Hotel to potential guests and we will certainly return.

We stayed on a 2 night spa taster package DBB

Very Good...

- Great location and views, lovey walks, weather, wonderful spa taster package, large room and comfy bed, very good 6 course "taster" dinner, friendly staff, good range of whisky, reasonable wine prices

Not so good (didn't spoil the break but needs some attention)...

- Had to wait 45 mins to get checked in at 14.30 and then given different room than had been allocated
- Had to queue for breakfast
- Bar was deserted despite busy hotel and the real ale was off
- Outside hot tub not working
- Card machine not working properly and rejected debit card (but no charge applied for using credit card)

I would usually rave about this hotel as I visit at least twice a year, however I feel that having just returned from a 2 night break then onto a night in The Waterside Hotel in Inverness there is definitely a need for improvement!!!! We were on a Spa Break £138 per person DBB. 1.5 hours of Spa treatments.
Good points: Stunning location, Receptionist was so helpful shame it was her last day :((
Rooms good size we were in a room looking over fire exit but room was good size, large bathroom all beautifully clean compliments to the housekeeping staff.
Spa Treatments are so relaxing and Audrey who did our groups treatments was a gem. Very good value for money.Treatment rooms are very nicely decorated :))
Bad points: The leisure facilities are usually really good as lovely pool, gym indoor & outdoor jacuzzi. The outdoor Jacuzzi was broken and has been for some time according to a member of the leisure club. This is a huge bonus when staying here to sit in the jacuzzi and watch sun set so come on get it fixed!!!!!!
The restaurant!!! Breakfast is good with varied selection, evening meal is average every visit I have been on there has been someone complaining about meals arriving at different times, cold wrong order. The food we had on our 2 night visit was eatable this lets this hotel down big time!!!
I do recommend this hotel for its location but always say the food and restaurant lets it down. Having stayed at the The Waterside in Inverness and had a High Tea for £10.95 with a scrummy main course with a section of cakes scones, meringues and a home bake which was just delicious I think the manager of Golf View needs to address all the issues that customers have raised as your replies to other reviews on Trip advisor are not addressing the concerns raised. It is the same issues raised time and time again!!!!

We had a family room as there was an additional small room with bunk beds to go with all the space we had in the main area. Pool and sauna were nice and the run to and from the outdoor hot tub was invigorating in the very breezy sea air. Not exactly buzzing in the bar but the Balvenie whisky was good. The breakfast was small but very tasty. Bit of a farce at dinner as we were right beside the service doors (although there were lots of free tables) so asked to be moved and when our meal came the table was too small so had to move again.I must say the chateaubriand was lovely, as was all the food, so worth the moving around! All in all a very enjoyable stay, just a few wee tweaks needed.

Experience of hotel is one of delight and frustration. First the delight; The hotel is perfectly situated with beautiful rooms and views (if you're lucky enough to get one). We booked a two night stay b&b for £99 and got lucky with a really nice 4poster bed with fantastic sea views. The key word is lucky, no guarantees, I guess. The facilities are in line with what you might expect from a 4 star hotel, though as I didn't use the spa/leisure facilities I can't rate them.

Now, sadly for the frustration. You may have picked up from other reviews that the service is indifferent at best, poor at worst. Having been warned (via tripadvisor) prior to our stay I was hoping that things might have changed as the management have responded to complaints on tripadvisor with regards to service in the restaurant. All I would say is if you can avoid it, don't eat at the restaurant. On the first morning for breakfast we arrived at the restaurant to find a queue of about 10 people waiting to be seated, even though the restaurant was less than half full. Eventually we were told to take a seat while tables were cleared. People were generally happy to wait but this soon changed when other folks started queue jumping, chaos ensued. This all came about due to a simple lack of organisation by staff. This would be a recurring feature. We had invited friends to join us for dinner at the hotel and met them in the bar for pre-dinner drinks. Only there were no staff to be seen. I waited and waited. I went in search and found a waitress in the restaurant who then proceeded to leave the restaurant in order to serve my drinks, great for me but what about the folks in the restaurant? At dinner we ordered two steaks, chicken and the vegetarian option. The steaks arrived without the accompanying chips & onion rings which eventually arrived 10 mins later when the steak was cold. The chicken served was the wrong meal and had to be replaced and the cauliflower gratin bore no resemblance to the menu description. Things were made worse when the side veggies were given to the wrong diner and then 2 of the dessert orders arrived followed by a 10 minute wait for the other 2 orders.

Overall a nice hotel, but would I pay £210 a night to stay in the room we were lucky enough to be allocated? Absolutely not. Great hotel rooms, fab location but let down by poor customer care and terrible restaurant service.

Room Tip: Room 27 lovely four poster, jacuzzi bath and fab views over the sea

Thank you for your feedback and glad that you appreciated the upgraded room.

At breakfast at peak times we can cater for 70 guests seated. With as many as 100 guests in house if all guests come down at once this can lead to a few minutes wait whilst we reset tables.

Our apologies for this. Thank you for your comments.
