5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2010

Upon arriving at Sunny Brae we were welcomed by Ian, the owner of the hotel. We were conscious at first glance that perhaps, being in mid-twenties, we were significantly younger than our fellow guests, but Ian immediately made us feel comfortable and at ease.

The hotel is accommodating in every way. We arrived with very little knowledge of the area, yet determined we would visit Whisky distilleries and catch sight of some of the local dolphins. John (we think he is manager/owner's son) pointed us in the right direction for each activity, going so far as to organise a tour around a boutique distillery for us. He really went out of his way.

Finally, the breakfasts... The huge choice of cooked breakfasts was brilliant, but equally as tempting was the continental selection, where they presented fresh croissants each day and offered every nut/seed imaginable (a nice touch which you rarely see in hotels).

We had a delightful meal on 13 August 2010 - it was a special family celebration and Sunny Brae was the perfect venue. The restaurant is very attractive with wonderful views. I can particularly recommend the Goats Cheese and Aubergine starter, the Venison main course and the Strawberry and Meringue Roulade. We also enjoyed the excellent wine list and attentive service. What a great team - 10 out of 10.
(Based on this meal alone I would imagine the hotel is a great place to stay, this couple clearly know their stuff!)

My wife and I were eating in the Hotel restaurant last Thursday evening (1st July) along with 2 friends. We booked the meal as a Birthday surprise for my wife. Right from the initial telephone call, the owner Mr Ian Bochel was very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was ideally situated overlooking Nairn Beach. It was very clean and bright and the service was first class. The food was delivered to the table with no delay and was delicious. We were delighted with our treatment and are considering returning to stay as we were treated so well.

Definately would recommend to friends,

Stayed for two nights of our touring holiday. Extremely comfortable stay. Room and bathroom very high standard, excellent freshly cooked to order breakfast with plent of choice. Did not dine in the evening, the menu looked very good but did not cater for vegetarians, but have found this to be fairly normal in Scotland! Would stay again even though it was probably rather over priced compared to the other equally good accomodation we had during out tour. Easy walking distance to all local ameneties.

I stood in this hotel for 3 nights and was surprised how good the Scottish cuisine can be. Wonderful meals, a very good wine list, and a top choice of whiskies, presented by a very friendly landlord and a great staff! I enjoyed every minute of my stay, especially when we spotted dolphins in the Moray Firth while we had our after dinner dram.

This is the place to be, before you go to Inverness airport, 8 miles away. Or when you arrive, exhausted, in this lovely part of Scotland.

I have stayed here twice on business and really enjoyed both times. The outside of the building is not very picturesque, but the view over the Moray Firth from inside is brilliant. My room had everything you need for a visit and was immaculate. The decor is a bit fussy for my taste though. I imagine the first floor rooms at the front have great views. The food in the restaurant is excellent and reasonably priced (£26.50 for 3 courses). It is all home made and locally sourced. Ian the owner will tell you where each ingredient has come from. There is also a good wine list that is good value. The German wines are a speciality and worth trying even if you are a sceptic: I was won over. The hotel clientele were of mature years so this is not a party spot. The restaurant seems to be well liked by locals too.

We are local to the area, so did not stay at the hotel, but we go there on special occaisions for evening meals, and the food is fantastic. Excellent value for three courses and a brilliant drink selection. The service is also top class.
