“great day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2013

My kids aged 5 and 6 absolutley love a visit to Newark Castle, it might not be the biggest castle but the kids love wandering around and pretending that they lived there years ago. It is very magical.

“Free tour by Inverclyde Tourist Group”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

Friendly staff bending over backwards to please and make us welcome to Scotland. Tour informative and interesting with regular stops for photography. The castle itself was being renovated after a storm.

“Free tours by Inverclyde Tourist Group.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2013

We were met by an elderly Scotsman who led us to the Inverclyde Tourist Group desk and we immediately signed up for a Free tour which was wonderful. It took us to Newark Castle for which there was a small charge of £3.60. Worth every penny, and the surrounding countryside which was very picturesque. Camera for taking snapshots of castle and countryside. Comfortable shoes but little walking involved except in castle itself. Good port of call to visit from cruise ship.

“Casle on the banks of the Clyde”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2013

Loved the location. Rooms well laid out and interesting for the uninitiated. The grounds are lovely for a picnic and on the day we went, there was a wedding about to take place. They would have shot some amazing photos as the location looked really stunning.

“Fantastic piece of history overlooked by thousands daily”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2013

The fact that it is beside a shipyard and a busy main road probably puts many folk off from visiting the castle, which is a shame since it really is a diamond in the rough. Until the early 1980s, it was actually sandwiched between two shipyards, which gave it a quirky charm.

Next time you drive by - well, don't drive by. Make the 200 metre detour and reward yourself with a fascinating trip into the past. Great if you have children, they will love exploring the dungeons, the ramparts and everything in between.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and a nice wee gift shop.
