“Interesting walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

Short walk to visit these interesting, thought provoking stones but well worth the visit and you can take your dog!

“Prepare for a walk”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

Arrived and parked no problem. But. as the walk started, it was clear it wasn't a short one. Saw tourists miles ahead still walking. End product disappointing. Advertising photos very photoshopped! Got there and there was random sandstone blocks protruding from the ground. Yes that's what to be expected but, sorry go visit Stone Henge if you want something actually worth walking to to see.

“Beautiful setting, easy access, informative signs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

There is ample parking. Access is about a 1 mile walk on a broad path through sheep pastures. The interpretive signs are informative. You pass a grave cairn first. The actual upright stones do not form a circle, although traces of the circle are there. Hard to imagine how they got these big stones to this site (a peat bog) without wheels or iron tools. Definitely worth the walk and one of the few places on the Arran roads where you have a good parking lot and can get out and look around.

“A Real Treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

The walk out to the stones (standing stones, stone circles, cairns) on Machrie Moor this spring was busy with lambs and pheasants. A photographer's paradise. Then you get to the stones. An awe inspiring site with good interpretive information provided by Historic Scotland. Even with plenty of visitors on a good day I was able to get the photos I wanted with a little patience. The 3 mile round trip walk is quite easy and certainly worth the effort. There is much improved parking area since our last visit. It's a hike we'll take again and again.

“Rising out of the mists!! Magnificent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

Excellent example of stone circle. Great directions, reasonable parking and not too far to walk and well marked. Good information boards. Beautiful stones and amazing to think they were erected without modern tools. It was raining when we went but it was still wonderful.
