Some previous reviews of the Eight Acres made me wonder why I had booked this hotel !.
However there are many points in it's favour starting with the excellent and attentive staff and the high standard of catering.
On the downside my room was long overdue for refurb although it was clean enough and the bed linen etc was fresh and sparkling white.
A "J. Edgar" around areas of the dining room would not have gone amiss. In general my complaints are overshadowed by the good things about this establishment and at the price paid I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Many thanks for taking the time to review your stay with. You are correct in your comments with regards to disabled access, the hotel does not have a lift and we do advise guests that all our rooms are on the first floor. I am not sure on your comments with regards to the bathroom in one of our single rooms, all our single rooms are of the same size and have shower ensuites also. I apologise everything was not to your satisfaction but I thank you for your comments and where possible we will use these to improve our product and service. Thanks again for your review.

Receptionist was only just polite, performed her duty but without making us feel welcome! Corridor leading to bedroom was shabby with dirt streaks on the Walls and carpets which had seen better days. Room was adequate but it smelt! The bedding was clean but decorative blanket and cushions weren't. Window was also dirty! Bathroom was clean although the bath was old and discoloured. Restaurant service was good as was the food. Service in the bar was good too, but we chose not to sit there as the telly was on all the time and was too loud for our comfort.
Our deal included dinner, bed and breakfast for £128 so it would have been good value if the room had been of a better standard.

We stayed in this hotel for a four night break and after a long but lovely journey, we were greeted by very friendly staff. The room was very nice , an unexpected suite but a very tired bathroom. This room had a slabbed area to the outside with very untidy weeds growing through and no access or railings to use it as a balcony!! what a waste!! ANYHOW LETS GET ON TO THE NITTY GRITTY!! Went to thepool area again very tired and grimy and no water in the spa bath. Well we thought that was cleaning time , so returned next morning to the hoses in the same place and the bath with half filled grimey water??? why? couldnt find anyone to ask??BREAKFAST!! no grapefruit juice , no fruit salad, porridge in clumps, black pudding cut so thin you could frizby it and pathetic burnt haggis!!! worst breakfast weve had in any scottish hotel!! approached the manager about this and juice and salad were rectified the following day but not the next 2.. Evening meal was kindly served to us in the bar because of my partners food intolerances but not good at times!! On the last morning , myself and my partner were chatting to a lady on the first floor landing and the plain wooden fire door opened out with people coming down to breakfast, so i stepped backed to let them out and the other fire door opened out and whacked me on the neck and back!! NO WINDOWS SO DEFINATLEY A HEALTH AND SAFETY PROBLEM I WOULD SAY!!! WONDER WHAT THEY WOULD MAKE OF THIS THEN!! All in all i gave you a chance by rectifying your hotel problems but no sattisfaction and a cheeky letter given!! Pity cause you have lovely staff and a beautiful area downstairs in a wonderful part of the world. Thanks but no thanks .. WILL NOT RETURN.. SHAME REALLY!!

Room Tip: Room clean and tidy , tired bathroom, half done jobs wasted balcony, unexpected window cleaners!!

We recently had a two night stay in this hotel. It was easy to find and is ideally located for visiting Elgin, Nairn, Inverness, etc.

The hotel looked a bit tired from outside. However, once inside, it was clear that the reception area, residents' lounge, and bar had all been updated. The bedrooms, too, were modern with tea and coffee making facilities, as well as hairdryer. Although the en-suite bathrooms were a little dated, they were very clean and the overhead shower in the bathroom was excellent.

The highlight of our stay was the dining experience which was absolutely fantastic. The menu offered at breakfast and each evening for dinner was excellent and the presentation compared favourably to good city restaurants.

The staff were all very courteous and friendly. The one thing that the hotel didn't have, though, was a lift and as we had taken my elderly parents with us for the break, and we had several pieces of luggage, this proved problematic. There was an electric chair lift from the residents' lounge up to the bar area but but the hotel really could do with installing a lift. All in all, I would recommend this hotel as being good value.

Stayed here for two nights through lastminute at a rate of £55 per room per night bed and breakfast. This was a bargain.
Although the hotel looks like the Crossroads Motel as you arrive, it's clear there are refurbishments taking place (this included some workmen hammering walls next to the room at 8.30am) and the twin room we stayed in had recently been refurbished to a good standard.
The hotel has a leisure club with a pool, jacuzzi and sauna and these were clean.
The breakfast was traditional buffet for cereals and fruit and table served Scottish and other options including smoked salmon and haddock. Although service was a little slow, it was good quality.
The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring the coastline from Forres to Cullen and there are some lovely places in town to eat if you don't fancy the hotel restaurant.
We would recommend the hotel but only at the right price.

I am actually writing this review in the bar of the hotel so 10/10 for supplying free WiFi. I have written a review on this hotel before and made the decision to stay here again based on the fact I know what to expect. That is 1) a cheap room, between £50-£55 including breakfast . 2) a single bed, small sink and toilet and plain ropey shower cubicle in a room which would not be our of place in a 1970's military base. 3) walls the thickness of cardboard so probably quite a bit of noise (if your neighbour is a 'snorer' I suggest earplugs as you will hear it).
That said, the manager has replied to others on tripadvisor saying these single rooms are priced accordingly as the hotel accepts they are 'sub-standard' As long as this is made clear I do not have an issue staying here especially as the nearby Premier Inn is regularly £25 more without breakfast.. What is unacceptable is when you book on laterooms these are described as normally £250/ night rooms....not in a million years and this is really something for trading standards to look at. The hotel itself when you book direct rarely charges more than £55.
The staff can appear grumpy and stressed but (certainly tonight) the place appears to be run by youngsters who maybe do not have the commitment ....or maybe they are just underpaid and overworked.
In summary..cheap, somethimes chearful and basic.

Many thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us. With regards to the rates on late rooms, the maximum rate of £250 is set to allow us to close out our rooms on the site, as you quite accurately state the standard rate for our single rooms is no higher than £60 Bed and Breakfast. I will forward your comments regarding this to our head office as the process for rate setting is a dealt with by them. I appreciate your comments regards the staff, however although they may appear young, they are experienced and more than capable of the jobs they are employed to do and we do not discrimate against anyone regardless of age. Thank you once again for your comments.
