“Enjoyed our stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2009

Overall the service was good and cheerful. We were pleased with our room and were comfortable but would have appreciated brighter lights - the dark shades made reading difficult. the food in the restaurant was of a good standard, the bar service was ok but was busy at times.
The hotel is on the outskirts of Elgin and ideally situated for touring - There are plenty of whisky distilleries to visit as well as all the other interesting places to see such as Fort George, Culloden battlefield, Brodie and Huntly Castle as well as all the lovely old harbours along this coast
The swimming pool and leisure facilities looked great but unfortunately I was unable to take advantage of them.
The best - The cheerful staff and food.
The least liked - was the dim lighting in the bedroom.

I stayed at this hotel for 10 days on businness in Feb 09. Most of the public areas of the hotel have obviously undergone recent refurbishment and look fantastic as a result. The double room was small but comfortable. The first room offered only had a shower. Note to bath addicts - make sure you specifically request a room with a bath tub! Fortunately the staff were very accommodating and switched the room around for me with no hassle at all to me (but plenty to them - commendable!). Although the pool and gym are obviously a bit dated now it was a great facility to have and an early morning swim before work was just the ticket.
Free wifi throughout the hotel is a real boon for those working or even those travelling with bored teens. Forgot to bring your lap top? Use the free PC with full internet access in the lobby. Simple but brilliant.
Food deserves a special mention at this hotel. It was fabulous and although prices were typically high as they are in all hotels, this place had the unusual attribute that it earnt them with a varied menu, lovingly prepared. Its been a long time since I saw such a varied breakfast menu. Cinnamon french toast with crispy bacon and maple syrup anyone? What a way to start the day.
Overall this hotel is comfortable and stylish in the main, but still looks a bit dated, and dare I say it, shabby, in places (including the outside and the lack of lift, but you can blame the planning people for that, apparently permissions for outward improvements are not forthcoming). The saving grace of this place is without a doubt the staff. Never have I met such a consistently pleasant, friendly, polite and helpful bunch. They could teach a few of the more upmarket places I have stayed about manners, and making people feel welcome.
Book it - you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here for a weekend break in late November 2008. We got a really good deal for two nights dinner, bed and breakfast including wine.

The communal rooms in the hotel are very pleasant and recently decorated, although the dining area was particularly dark in a morning. The corridors are yet to be refurbished - there is no lift and we had to walk a reasonable distance to our room, which was very small but sufficient for our purposes. The free wifi did not work all the time.

We used the leisure club, one reason for choosing this hotel. The gym was good, and quiet. The pool was fine, although quite small and busy as is not just for hotel residents but local members.

Dinner was a mixed experience. The service was relatively poor and it was clear the staff were generally quite new. We were seated right next to the serving area, although the restaurant was not full and could overhear staff comments on how to serve bread etc. When we mentioned our deal included a bottle of wine, the waitress told us that she would have to go and check that. Not exactly welcoming. Food however, was of good quality and all that is needed is for staff to be better trained and experienced. Breakfast choice was varied and reasonable.

Overall we enjoyed our weekend and found the hotel good value given the deal we had booked.

Booked a 3 night away break through classicbritain.com and got an excellent deal including dinner and breakfast staying in a suite for a total of £248.00. Our suite consisted of a room with a double bed, a good-sized lounge with tv, and a small bathroom with a shower over the bath. The room was nicely decorated and had two good wall heaters with 3 good size windows giving lots of light. Our dinner each night was tasty, consisting of 4 courses and a choice of 3 dishes on each course. You could have items from the a la carte menu at a supplement but this was hugely expensive - an 8oz fillet steak would have cost £21.00 extra! Wine started at £14.95 for a poor quality french. Breakfast was very good, using good qaulity ingredients, cooked to order and served by a nice lady from Chile.
It was great to be able to use the leisure club which was very clean. Generally, the standard of service was inconsistent which did let the hotel down somewhat, eg. we were checked into a dirty room, no hot water one night, three evenings they didn't have the wine I ordered, and no newspapers one morning. Overall however, a pleasant stay and very good value for money.

Thank you for taking the time and reviewing your recent stay with us, I see from your comments both good and bad, my apologies on being given a room that wasn't ready and only hope that your suite made up for our error. Again my apologies with regards to our lack of wines available throughout your stay, my restaurant team have only been together just over a week as needed to improve on standards of service another week or so and we'll be their sorry if this caused you any probelms during your stay with us. Thank you again for taking the time to review your recent stay with us.

Just returned from eight acres hotel, had a 2 night stay booked through easybreaks. myself and my boyfriend had a lovely time. The staff and service was excellent as were the meals.

The hotel has obviously been given a make over from the lovely interior furnishing, but still has the appearence of a older hotel. The exterior desperately needs a lick of paint.
Our room on first impression was very small but recently made over. Also the walls are thin and can hear all conversations in the corridor. our room did not had a bath only a shower which was disappointing, although after speaking to other guests their rooms were large and with a bath and no problem with noise so i guess it just the luck of the draw when you book .

Also just an added warning if you are using the female sauna within the leisure facilities, I was happily sat in there at 8am and members of the public who are members use the pool before work. A woman came into the very small sauna area naked, when asked her what she was doing she replied its a nice warm place to get dried, adding that most of the women do this!!!!! Im used to using communial changing areas but not within such close proximity especially whie relaxing in a sauna.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Eight Acres Hotel. The hotel has been recently refurbished and unfortunately not all our rooms are the same size. I'm glad you made use of our leisure club as it's an ideal place to relax throughout the day, the sauna is not supposed to be natural and will make sure for future that all guests are aware of this my appologies for any discomfort to you. Thank you again for taking the time and reviewing the Eight Acres.

well what can i say ,couldn't fault it.The staff were all so friendly with wicked sence of humour and plenty to say.I have never felt so relaxed in a hotel situation,it felt personal and fun.The staff took care of our every need and nothing seemed too much trouble. The place was modern and clean, the room slightly on the small side, but the atmosphere created by the staff ment we probably spent more time in the bar than we normally would.FOOD YUM! Every single meal was cooked to perfection, if I could afford it I'd eat like this all the time.I will recomend this place to all i know and hope to come again. If anyone gives this place a bad reveiw it's clear they're not a fun lover.Come here if you like to laugh!!

Two couples having a three day break. Hotel is certainly working hard to set a higher standard. Rooms are clean and bathrooms upgraded. Leisure facilities are extensive but would benefit from upgrading. Meals are of high standard and value breaks offered exceptional value.
