Whilst having the outward appearance of a '70's office complex, step through the front door & it's all change. Communal rooms are well furnished in a contrasting mix of leather/suede/cane/tweed, with numerous topical, whisky-production wall hangings. The overall feeling in Lounge, Bar & Dining Room, was warm, inviting & comfortable.
Someone has worked very hard to make the inside of the hotel attractive, presumably to compensate for its outward appearance - they've succeeeded !

The same decor theme is carried over into the bedroom, ours, being classed as a Standard Double, was large & airy, clean & warm, with all you could reasonably expect and ask for. So what, the radio alarm was dated & you actually had to push the buttons on the TV (had a previous guest nicked the remote?), if you feel this trivia worthy of adverse comment, you really should get a life.

My wife & I ate from the 'inclusive' menu in the Hotel's restaurant - food was enjoyable, ample portions, hot & well presented. If you were paying the advertised price of under 20 quid, you're not being robbed for 4 courses and coffee. Breakfast the following morning was excellent, large choice & again well cooked & presented. Service was exemplary.

Throughout our short stay we were nothing but impressed by the Staff, from Reception - Leisure - Bar - Restaurant, to a man/woman, all were pleasant, attentive, friendly & efficient.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable break - if this is an example of the standards at Crerar Hotels, we'll be back !

First impressions for this hotel was not good as the O from the word reception was hanging off the outside wall. Checking in went smoothly and then we arrived in our room. The room was small but moderen looking this only applied to the sleeping area, compact was not the word to use for the bathroom, there was no room to move in here. The cabinet supplied to leave your toiletries in was dirty ( does not take long to wipe over) and the toilet seat was chipped, not good. We also shared the room with cobwebs on the window, how nice!!!
The communal areas have been given a modern feel in a some what dated building.

Breakfast on the Sunday was one of the worst experiences we have ever had, it took about 15 mins for some one to take our order then 30mins later still had not received breakfast. When complained informed that they were short staffed and breakfast arrived almost immediately after this but cold ( ordered full cooked scottish). I will say that there was a huge improvement the following morning at breakfast, not a long wait and food was hot.

I will not be returning to this hotel any time soon or will I be recommending it to friends.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay with us. Your comments regarding the poor housekeeping have been addressed with the housekeeper and my apologies that these small yet significant jobs were done checked before your arrival. With regards to breakfast service and food on the Sunday again my apologies we were let down badly by staff but should still have managed to produce the same level of service and was good to see we got Monday breakfast back on track, thank you for your comments always helpful.

Kind Regards
Donald Macleod

I will never ever stay here again as the room was filthy, TV that was push button to change channels and even the catering & beverage manager agreed that the single rooms were sub standard. The description on the internet does not match the contents on the room. There was stains on the wall, carpet, ceiling tiles, bathroom cabinet, windows were dirty, cracks in the toilet wall, cup and teapot were like something from the 70's, TV that buzzed when a mobile was placed near this, bedside radio that was like it was from the 60's - need I go on.

If I ever want to relive the 70's or early 80's then this hotel will be first on my list.

Really enjoyed our stay here. From the minute we got to reception until the day we left the service was excellent. Very pleasant staff. Denny in the restaurant was very attentive and looked after us well, as did all his restaurant staff. Yes on the odd occasion we may have had to wait a little time, never for very long however, but the food was well worth the wait. Dinner each evening was fantastic and the breakfasts really set you up for the day. The rooms may be a bit small but are spotless. We had clean towels every day (stayed six nights). Dont be fooled by the exterior (a bit dated) the interior has a very modern feel. Would definitely visit again.

We arrived at the Eight Acres Hotel after having an awful experience in another Crerar hotel in Pitlochry. We were dreading the trip after such a poor experience, but thankfully, it was like a different world!! Although the room was quite small it was very clean and the bed was huge. To be picky, it was extremely hot in the room, and the window wouldn't stay open unless we wedged a cushion in it, but apart from that it was fine.
We received excellent service from polite and helpful staff for our entire stay. The restaurant was wonderful, the food was really good, and the choices excellent. The staff could not do enough for us, and I feel I must praise in particular Denny and Fiona who both waited on us during our stay and made us feel so special and welcome. The Crerar group could do with sending staff from The Scotlands Hotel up to Elgin, to see how things really should be done!!

Well Sally from Staffordshire thank you very much for all your fantastic comments after your very resent stay with us, we all get the odd bad night and have to dig deep to recover from previous mistakes in service somethings that you just can't control on the night I know the hotel in question will be trying very hard to rectify their problems,I know they have appointed a new operations manager to improve on service and quality he was my second for the last 4 years. Thank you again for all your kind words and we hope to see you up in Elgin again in the near future. I will indeed pass your praise onto both Denny & Fiona.

Kind Regards
Donald Macleod
