I need to preface this review by saying that this is the first hotel we stayed at in the highlands. They claim it was the former residence of a whiskey baron. The area is fairly rural and so there are not many options. There are no chains in the area, all hotels and b&b;s are privately owned. We were there to travel the area and visit distilleries.
Here are some observations. the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second floor and there is no elevator. The room was a decent size with a king bed and a twin bed, so it would be good for families with small children. The bed was rock hard -- no exaggeration. It was like sleeping on the floor. The sheets were very rough. The first night, my sheets were slightly stained, but they changed them for the next night. I am assuming they were clean. The duvet cover likewise was not clean by the foot of the bed. The bedspread was worn. There was no air conditioning or fan and the days were fairly warm. The room faced another building and so there was only a limited breeze. I am sure they rarely have a need for a/c but we were very uncomfortable at night. The bathroom was large but not well done. The toilet seat did not fit the bowl, how hard is that to do!? The shower is so small that there is no place to put soap or shampoo. There is a large tub and with some thought they could have placed a shower head there and a shower curtain. The restaurant is downstairs and serves breakfast until 9am. One morning we got there at 7 minutes after and they would not cook anything for us but we did have access to cereal, etc. The food is average and although it was convenient for a fast breakfast, we only ate dinner there once. I would not recommend this hotel.
