“Not the worst but far from the best!”

Yet again booked here on behalf of my work. After arriving and finding not reception or welcome room called the hotel number to be put through to another hotel also owned by 'andy' to be told we had to check in at another hotel (handy to know). We didnt need to as the 'security' door had been jammed open and the doors were all open with the keys in the door. After being assigned my room I was then told that I had to be out of my room a day earlier than my departure as it had been booked by another family and that my accomodation would be worked out! The hotel stated that it had just gone under a refurbishment, a fact that was difficult to see! Had obviously been done up quickly and with little budget. Bedding and towels although bad quallity could have been greatly approved with a good wash! Smelt slightly mouldy and scratchy as hell. Had a total of 6 pillows in my room of which im glad as i needed most of them to make up the typical 2 pillow thickness!!! After 4 days of attempting to call manager i was left a note outside my door to unform me i was being moved upstrairs to a different room. All I can say is it was lucky I had a late meeting that day and was there to receive letter, I can only imagine what they would have done with my poccessions if they were still in the room! In conclusion cheap and basic for a stay over or few nights but id stay away if you are on a longer stay.

I stayed with my sister for two nights on a weekend break. We only paid £12.50 each per night . On arrival our beds weren't made up but after a few phone calls to the numbers listed on the front door a maid arrived and made the beds within 15mins. The room was cold as the central heating was on a timer and didn't click on until after 4pm. The maid brought us a portable heater when we mentioned it was cold.
Although the sheets and duvet were clean we noticed the maid hadn't changed the pillow slips and there was make- up and other marks on them. We phoned another of the telephone numbers on the list but as no one came promptly we purchased our own from Primark in the nearby shopping centre. My bed had uncomfortable springs which squeaked but sis had a better one. The bed in the next room also squeaked during the night !! Fortunately the occupants didn't appear to be athletes and it only woke me for a short time!
We had a long very narrow toilet which had no blind on the window which looked out onto the main street. Although it was frosted we taped paper onto it. The sink was very small and it was difficult to fill our kettle and when we brushed our teeth our bottoms hit against the wall when we bent over. The shower took ages to heat up and wasn't as warm as we would have liked but was ok.
The room had a fridge, kettle and microwave and plenty of tea and coffee. We had a cheeseburger one morning for breakfast in the Magnum Leisure Centre which was immediately around the corner of the hotel.
We ate both nights at the Ship Inn as it was only 50 or so yards from the hotel. The meals were good and the staff very friendly.
On the whole it was value for money and we enjoyed our stay. The beach was lovely and we saw lots of wildlife. The only really down side was the amount of dog poo along the length of the harbour area. You really can't look up when walking just in case.

We stayed here on our way to Largs from Norfolk for a stopover and night out at the Ship Inn. The Marina Inn is just yards away right on the harbourside. It's basic but clean and has everything you could want, ensuite, TV, radio, fridge (even a microwave!). There was no sign of staff and we got in by tapping the key pad on the door with the number we'd been emailed. A personal message had been left with phone numbers to contact if any problems. There were nice wee soaps, fresh towels and plenty of the usual coffee and tea stuff. The brochures for the local attractions were laid out and we couldn't believe that they offer a courtesy car from Prestwick Airport if you arrive by Ryanair and stay for 2 nights. There's even free bike and kayak hire. There's no bar or restaurant in the building, literally just rooms, but we had a great breakfast at the Arts Centre next door and of course the legendary Ship Inn, oldest pub in Irvine, is always worth a visit. There's no denying it's a wee bit like a hostel and the notice of special rates for contractors is a bit scary, but the only lads we met were nice and it was quieter than some much grander hotels we've stayed in.

We were invited to a party near the Marina Inn and since we'd been before and were happy, we booked it again. This time, although still clean, comfortable and good value, the pub/resturant is gone and replaced with more rooms. Very dissapointing!!

Don't stay here on a Friday or Saturday night if you are looking for peace and quiet! The (very loud)karaoke goes onto 1 p.m and the noise in the street outside until 2 p.m. There is no escape as the rooms are directly above the bar. Proprietor was unsympathetic and we weren't told about the karaoke when we booked.
Room was clean enough but the towels weren't and we were only given one set between two. The air filter in the bathroom is also extremely noisy. Room was also very small. Not impressed.

  • Liked — Nothing
  • Disliked — Noise from bar downstairs until 2 a.m.

This was a last minute booking and as it was so cheap (£35 room only ) we were a wee bit worried, but we need'nt have been. Although very basic , this place was clean and comfortable and I would recommend it to anyone on a budget.

It looks like a nice wee traditional pub from the outside, but inside
is newly done up and more like a resturaunt than a pub, which from a personal point of view was a wee bit dissapointing. Like the rooms, the food too was cheap and basic but again very nice.

Great value for money!! No complaints! (well, maybe SOME of the bar staff could've been a wee bit friendlier and welcoming). I would stay here again!!!

P.S. Asda's not too far away for a cheap breakfast!

  • Liked — Affordability, value for money.
  • Disliked — Stairs outside up to rooms might prove difficult for some.
