“Fabulous Food!”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

Good location for the centre of Perth and only twenty minutes from Gleneagles.
Friendly, helpful staff and clean room.
Lovely evening meals - we couldn't wait for 7pm to come around in order to head for the Bistro!
Breakfast was delicious and served hot, especially enjoyed the salmon with creamed eggs.
Would stay again if visiting the area.

I want to award 5 stars as I don't regret staying here. Overall (having looked at the outside of some of the alternatives) I still think it was a good pick, but.....
We had a room to the rear of the hotel. It looks out onto the railway station so trains were aubile and there is a road junction in between hotel and station so made for a lot of noise. To compound the problem we felt it necessary to sleep with the windows open as the room was very hot. No air-con! Understandable as it is an old house converted into a hotel, but would have transformed the room completely.
Two other minor moans - only a standard sized double and the TV reception was not too good.
Moans over - the room was clean and well appointed with a large bathroom with nice big bath. Free wifi and other expected amenities.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a nice bar and a lovely outdoor area. Nice seating on two levels and looking out over a large pleasant park.
Restaurant was excellent and gets a separate deserved five star review

Room Tip: Avoid the rear of the hotel - go to the front - quieter and better view (unless you are a trainspott...

Hubby and myself stayed here overnight in the " oakbank " room which is a superior room upstairs at the front of the hotel.Lovely room, huge bed,tea and coffee making facilities, iron and board, hairdryer, table and easy chairs at the window, there was even a big brolly hung up in the wardrobe. The bathroom was, like the room,of a good size.Toiletries and the softest towels I have come across in a hotel.Everything was very clean. The views from the room overlooking the garden and beyond to the park were lovely, especially as it was a nice sunny day. There is plenty of room in the car park and I felt my car was totally safe there too.We walked to the cinema and the bars in the evening, which I would say would be a 5-10 minute walk, the receptionist gave me a small map to help. The staff were polite and helpful, the girls in the morning at breakfast did get a bit muddled a few times, but this didn't bother us at all.The breakfast was lovely, cooked to order which meant everything was freshly cooked and hot.The porridge with honey was good too and if we go back I would like to try the porridge with Whisky.I would recommend this hotel,my only regret was that we only stayed the one night. We plan to go back again, and maybe take the train as its a couple of minutes walk from the station. We also saw the bus station which is just around the corner, about a five minute walk.If we come back we would like to have a walk in the big park right beside this lovely hotel.

I feel bad writing this with such good reviews. we arrived at hotel at 2 oclock to find room wasn't ready after a long journey that was the last thing I needed. The room was clean and tidy but dated. When we did go to bed couldn't sleep for squeky floor boards the window wouldn't stay open as it was really warm in the room. The next morning we had to wait for a table being set surely they know how many guests they have. The breakfast was first class I have to say .On the Tuesday was our wedding anniversary and I had booked some rosie presecco for the afternoon when she brought it out it was white so we ended up with a normal bottle of rosie wine that cost £18.This morning the day we were leaving I asked for a glass of water for breakfast I got a jug of hot water had to ask again my husband asked for more toast and the waitress gave it to another table. This is not a cheap hotel it needs updating and the staff need to listen more the young Scottish girl was the best nothing was a chore for her. Its a shame cause this hotel is very central to everything just needs a bit of thought to guests
