“best egg sandwich anywhere”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

we have been visiting the tufted duck for a. number of years and it is always welcoming and Tim the owner is very knowledgeable about antiques. after a stroll around the various antiques shops it is a pleasure to sit down and enjoy the food in the cafe. it may not be 5star but it is good quality and very reasonable in price. the egg sandwiches are the best around because of his specialy fed chickens. you can have a full 3 course meal for less than £20. a very nice way to spend a few hours

“I like this cafe!”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

Excellent food and good service. Very friendly proprietor. Welcome wood burner on a chilly day.
Followed up with a browse through the adjacent antiques area.
I will return.

“Disappointing.”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

Stopping for lunch when visiting from England, 4 of us were served with soup which appeared to be watered down and tasteless. Very disappointing, having lunched in several venues during our trip which had excellent lunches. The proprietor did not seem to care that we were unanimous in our disappointment!

“Brilliant lunches”
Reviewed 6 May 2013

We visited this lovely restaurant twice in a week while staying locally and the service and food was fantastic both times.
We put them on the spot by turning up in bigger groups, first 7 of us and then 10 but they couldn't have been more accomodating.
Will definately by back when we are in the area again.
The only thing i would say is its not brilliantly signposted, there is a sign off the main road but nothing actually showing where it is.

“You'd be 'Quackers' not to ear here!”
Reviewed 6 May 2013

The Tufted Duck is always our first port of call when heading south, after two hours of driving, the bacon sandwiches are sublime. The quality of all the produce used is excellent and where possible it's all local, the soups are delicious, and the choice of sandwich fillings is excellent, my favourite is the mackerel pate with red onion, and the poached eggs are the best I have had anywhere (and I am so fussy about poached eggs) but if you have a particular request for something not on the menu, where possible, Tim, the owner is happy to oblige.
The service is fantastic and I can honestly say in all the years we have been going, we have never been disappointed. It really gets whatever trip we are undergoing off to a fine start, and it's always great to catch up with Tim, who is a great guy.
The Tufted Duck has recently undergone a refurb and looks amazing, with the tables now in the main body of the shop, so I can look at all the lovely antiques that are for sale, and think where I could put them. The view is great, and whatever the time of day or time of year you go the welcome is warm and friendly.
The Tufted Duck is part of a group of antiques dealers so it's well worth going for a morning or afternoon, for a look round.
I can't recommend this little gem of a place highly enough.
