Description: Fern Cottage Restaurant in the heart of Pitlochry is a firm favourite, both for local residents and visitors to Highland Perthshire. We are located as close as you can get to the heart of this picturesque Victorian town. Fern Cottage Restaurant offers a warm Highland welcome, truly tasty food and personal service for every customer. Our menus have an emphasis on flavour, the freshness of Scotlands' larder and a taste of the Mediterranean. There is now more than ever on offer with different menus at lunch and dinner times. Retaining much of the original ethos of using Scottish, seasonal ingredients to create dishes with a Mediterranean twist, our food is cooked to order and guarantees a treat for your taste-buds, whether a classic or a contemporary dish. Fern Cottage is now on winter hours. We will be open for lunches from 12noon with last orders at 2.15pm. We will re-open for pre-theatre or a la carte in the evening all using seasonal produce - we offer you something special every time. Head Chef Rifat Aycan has created the new menus using an exciting new range of dishes packed with flavour and all beautifully presented. Whether front of house or 'behind the kitchen door, every member of our team is dedicated to ensuring you enjoy your visit, spread the word and come back for more!

“Rather disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

We have eaten here a couple of times over the years so decided to try the pre-theatre meal. It was ok but uninspiring. The starter, which we both had, was tasty - fish cakes - but tiny portion. My husband had an equally small portion of venison for his main and I had salmon with risotto, which was rather bland.
We felt it was over-priced for what we had.
Perhaps their main menu would have been better, but it is not available until after 6.30 and we would have been late for the theatre.

“Very good food but very poor service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

We ate on Saturday evening a table for four we have all eaten here previously. The standard of food was very good indeed I had the Serrano ham with roast figs and stilton cheese a lovely combination as was my main of corn fed chicken with puy lentils and julienne of chorizo, we all had lovely meals with a variety of dishes chosen. The restaurant was not particularly full with lots of waiting staff but the staff seemed to be unsupervised with no leadership at all visible. The service was dreadfully slow having arrive at 6.45pm and did not finish our three courses till 9.40 pm there was no sense of urgency amongst the young staff as if they were all awaiting their training. We are back in September for a show six of us and am now hesitant to recommend the Fern Cottage.

“They went the extra mile and made it a time and place to remember”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

Our to be "daughter-in-law" had her hen do at Fern Cottage - no we were not drunk and caused havoc. The front of house staff were absolutely brilliant, kind, thoughtful and thought of things before you did. The Kitchen staff were absolutely brilliant also, especially catering for a party of 12 whilst the restaurant was full. The hen party were arriving in Pitlochry on the Friday evening and I asked if they would have time to slow roast meats to go with salads so that we could have an evening relaxing and have good food. This was not a bother at all and Andrew and his team in the kitchen worked hard to make our Friday night laid back but with locally sourced food unbelievable. Saturday evening was also brilliant. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone. We have eaten at Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, The Square and Morston Hall - all Michelin starred restaurants, but rate this one in Pitlochry.

“Anniversary break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Fern Cottage. My husband had seafood paella and rhubarb crumble and I had lamb with garlic mash and asparagus and raspberry cheesecake with toffee sauce for dessert. Absolutely delicious. Staff are excellent too.
