“A true home from home”

Ellangowan is a very beautiful B&B in a quite area of Pitlochry within easy walking distance of the main bars and shops. Our first floor room was excellent, very large with a monster big bathroom and excellent view. Many of the popular Pitlochry walks can be started from the steps of the B&B making it a great place to stay. Fantastic breakfast and great patio area overlooking the gardens to sit and relax at the end of a hard day on holiday. A true home from home experience we would highly recommend.

The Ellengowan House is a wonderful place that we as a family had very much looked forward to visiting for a long time. We were not disappointed by the experience and found the quality of care second to none. Perhaps the thing that lives long in the memory was the tremendous welcome and continued hosptality. Nothing was too much trouble and the cleanliness and attention to detail were superb. A little bit of luxury at a reasonable price indeed!

We arrived late on Friday evening and there was a warm welcome awaiting us. There was ample room for 2 adults and 2 teenage girls and the rooms were warm and very clean. The owners were helpful and understanding to dietry needs and nothing was too much trouble. When we stayed there was lots happening in the town and Sean and Mairi Mansell were helpful in advising good quality places to eat and visit. We only stayed one night as a stop off and Sean and Mairi were helpful in suggesting the route for the next part of our journey. Great stay and already planning our next visit, and will plan to stay longer next time. Will be recommending to family and friends a good value quality place to stay.

As a couple, this was our first holiday away together, one so special, that we can only thank Ellangowan for. On arrival, we were blown away by Ellangowan’s charm and welcome. On arrival, our host greeted us with a warm and friendly smile, which made us relax straight away. We were shown around the B&B itself and to our bedroom. I can only describe the décor of our room, as luxury and elegance, with a fantastic view. It had such attention to detail, far beyond that of any hotel we had ever been to. There was a kettle in the room, tea bags/coffee, glasses and also a hairdryer, which we found helpful. The bed itself was so comfortable, that relaxation was too easy, with several days, of unbroken sleep. Every morning we were offered a choice for breakfast. We always opted for the cooked breakfast, which was very tasty and was never a disappointment. Ellangowan is located on a quiet road, within a short walking distance to local attractions and entertainment.

The B&B itself was always immaculate in appearance and cleanliness, as were the bedrooms. Throughout our long weekend, our host was very polite and helpful, providing maps and information on local tourist attractions. Overall, I can only describe our stay as a ‘perfect getaway’. I would truly recommend others to experience something ‘special’, by going to Pitlochry and staying at Ellangowan.

Have just spent two days in Pitlochry and could not wish for a better way to relax.
B/B had charm and presence which matched our life style.
Rather than the usual stuffy attitude, it was a pleasure to be able to come and go without feeling we were imposing, free to enjoy the pleasures of this area.
A traditional Scottish House, with good food for breakfast and helpful advice where to visit and what to see in the evening.
Set in a quiet road it appealed to us because what we wanted wasto be able t have an early night in a quiet room, then the next night where we could come back very late.
The proprietors were understanding with our needs and made us feel at home.
It was very much like being at home.
We will recommend our friends and family to stay here when travelling through Scotland

Although the house is clean and the breakfast is acceptable (but not oustanding) be very careful not to incur the anger of the host!

Leading off the guests breakfast room is a large conservatory. I wandered in and was sitting having a quiet drink on our second evening. In less than 5 minutes the host charged into to room and shouted at us telling us that this was "the private part of the house". He was very rude and spoke to us like 5 year olds. We were not aware that we had strayed into a private area, there being no sign on the unlocked door. I'm very sorry if we did stray into a private area but it was not made clear to us. The atmosphere thereafter was horrible so we left the next day. When we settled our account the cheque was snatched from us and no farewell given. Actually, Mr. & Mrs.Mansell did us a huge favour. We moved into The East Haugh House Hotel which was fantastic in every way!

If you stay at Ellengowan be very careful not to uspet the owners. Better still why don't you stay at The East Haugh House Hotel?

Also the "ample" parking is very difficult to access.

This was a very unfortunate situation as you gained access to areas of our house late at night which were locked. The rest of your review is incorrect and we remained polite and helpful throughout your stay.

Ellangowan house is delightful, the exterior and interior is full of charm and original period features. A credit to Mairi and Sean who have tastefully decorated the inside to compliment the age of the property. The room we stayed in was extremely spacious (Room 2) as was the ensuite bathroom, all of the house was immaculately clean. Breakfast was sufficent offering various alternatives - coffee was lovely.

We only stayed one night but the B&B and Pitlochry is somewhere we would return. The only suggestions I would point out are purely taste wise; pillows were all quite hard and an extra pillow was not provided for the travel cot, black-out blind or darker curtains needed and drinking water in the room.
