“Not worth the money”
Reviewed 23 May 2011

Although the rooms are nice and the spa facilities were good, the hotel needs to completely refurbish its halls and stairways. Painted in a putty colour and very drab and dreary gave a very depressing welcome. Over an hours wait between starter and main was also unacceptable for a so called 4 star establishment. Wonderful location but they have to step up their game to get repeat customers I would think. We payed cheaply through the Groupon deal, however our stay was worth about what we paid not the £245 (a night!!) that they claim.

Thank you for taking the time and posting your review, please accept my apologies for the wait you experienced during your dinner. Regarding the hotel we do have a rolling maintenance program in place, we are only a 3 star hotel. Thank you for reviewing your recent stay, this is an invaluable tool to allow us to improve

Kind Regards

As part of two couples travelling up to the Cairngorms region for outdoor activities we stayed in this hotel. We paid £110 per room for dinner and B&B, supposedly saving £200!(this is highly questionable). The hotel is very old and grotty, on the third floor where we stayed the hallways looked unclean and we felt as though we were staying in an un-used part of a hotel from the 70s. The lift looked home-made, unsafe and very dated. The overall impression was that the place was being managed half heartedly with unfriendly reception staff and over-stretched waiting staff. The rooms were decorated nicely and seemed recent but they were small and stuffy during the night. The offer seemed to have been a huge lie as the room and B&B was worth probably £40 per room maximum. This is barely a 3 star hotel and I would not recommend it. There appeared to be equally dated hotels near by for £35 B&B a night which would probably be the same standard. On the plus: Breakfast was OK to good, the waiting and bar staff were nice and helpful, location is great for outdoor activities. We didn't use the spa andleisure facilities as they seemed very small and busy and you had to walk through the dining room to get to them!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay, it is disappointing to hear that you did not find everything to your satisfaction. We do have a rolling maintenance program but with such a large hotel this can take some time, it is an old hotel and we are trying to keep up with the maintenance of her. I can only apologise for the problems you encountered. Once again, thank you for taking the time to review the hotel.

Stayed for just one night, on a bed, breakfast & evening meal basis & found it to be a wonderful night's stay.
Very comfortable room & lovely hotel spa facilities, all spotlessly clean.
Very friendly restaurant staff, with an especially fantastic breakfast!

I stayed on a special voucher deal and received my evening meal and wine and stayed over with breakfast in the morning. This is an older style hotel which may have seen better days, but all the staff were very attentive, spacious rooms, food fine, cleanliness good. only complaint, the room was a little cold although there were extra blankets available and another duvet on the other family room bed if we needed. Pool great jacuzzi best yet! But that didnt really matter as hearing the dawn chorus was delightful and although it was raining for most of the time we were there it took nothing away from the locations charm, and stunning surroundings, also the river tay and the dam and fish leap was something to see and actually enjoyed it better in the rain! We will definetley be back whatever the weather.

Stayed at this Hotel also as part of Groupon deal - nearly cancelled when we read some of the previous reviews but so glad we didnt. We had an excellent stay, staff went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful, especially reception. Dinner and breakfast were very good and our room was spacious and bright..

If asked to describe this hotel I would agree with other reviews it could do with a some modernisation but it's clean, comfortable and welcoming. The staff are a major asset, very friendly, efficient and made us feel at home.

Checked in with my mum for an overnight stay as part of a groupon deal. Was first allocated a double room but asked for it to be changed to a twin which was swiftly done with a smile. Original room 302 was rather small with no view but new room 212 was airy and spacious.
Lesuire facilities are good and adequate sized pool for a swim and temperature was pleasant
dinner was very good, rose wine-was very agreeable, breakfast was excellent
couldn't complain would recommend to others

Room Tip: avoid room 302

The room was very small and more like a B&B room. Musty smell throughout.
The facilities were very small and only one beauty therapist which meant we were unable to get an appointment.
Food was definately not worth the price they asked. Lumpy mash potato and fish overcooked - no excuse for it when only 4 other tables eating. My cooked breakfast was definately not that! My poached egg was jelly like, the black pudding and haggis was not cooked through. My friends cinnamon french toast was deep fried and saturated in oil. Totally put us off eating that morning.

Room Tip: Not what I would class as a spa

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay, it is disappointing to hear that you did not find everything to your satisfaction. I, together with my head chef, take on board your comments with regards to food and improvements will be made. In reference to the treatments I'm sorry if she was fully booked this does need to be booked in advance as for this not being a Spa it is what it is and its a work in place and improvements are being made daily. I can only apologise for the problems you encountered. Once again, thank you for taking the time to review the hotel.
