“Service is the saving grace of this tatty old fashioned hotel”
Reviewed 19 October 2010

Stayed here for 3 nights to go walking. Great location for the town and station. Reception and other staff all brilliant and clearly well trained. However we were staying for 3 nights and looking forward to a combination of spa experience and walking in the local countryside and national park. Do not be fooled by the spa, 10 metre pool in reality is less than 5 metres as first half is knee deep. great for small children not for swimming. Sauna cannot hold more than two people so lucky for us we were the only people there at the time ! Advertise as open till 9.30 but closed at 7.30 pm. Room on first night was dark, dreary and incredibly small, no bath and a tiny shower. We asked to be moved and were offered the family room for the rest of our stay which was great improvement but shower did not work, windows rattled at night and bed far too small for hubby who is over 6 foot tall. Went to restuarant on first night and quickly departed, the long rows of tables and complete silence was very off putting. Went to the bistro advertised in the hotel and adjacent to it to find it was not serving food and was closing early. A great disapointment to hubby who was looking forward to a choice of whiskey which was not available in the hotel bar. Locally the town was very sad wth closing down sales and bars that were devoid of atmosphere and music. End of season I suppose but a great disapointment when we had travelled so far. However the walking was fabulous and you could not fault the enthusiasm and helpfullness of the staff in the hotel. Breakfast was lovely even tho we did have to ask for extra tea and butter every day. Having looked around the town there seemed to be other much nicer hotels which were cheaper and the restaurents we went to were fabulous. If you dont want the spa then stay in a B&B, local people told us they were good value and all the signs indicated they were full.

As a first time solo traveller I was a bit wary , but as soon as i arrived at the hotel the warmth of the reception staff, especially Violleta couldn't have been better.
This continued with all staff ,manager included, who got stuck in helping out in the very busy dining room. The food was excellent as were the spa facilities, a back neck and shoulder massage was included in my spa break and i must say it was as good as any i have had before (Stobo Castle included) so well done to the therapist. Have been to this hotel before but I must say there is a lot more atmosphere about the place now, and the music played in the lounge of an evening is nice and relaxing, although maybe some live entertainment would be nice.

Myself & partner booked a 2 day DBB with Spa Treatment included, through "Classic Britain" for a highland break & to celebrate my birthday. On arrival there is a customer carpark at the rear of hotel which had about 45/50 spaces. From arriving at reception till the end of our stay, a fantastic customer experience unfolded. We were alloctated a room in the adjoining Bank House Building as part of the "Best Available Room" Policy - a charming building with lovely decor & facilitlies - & obviously once a Bank of Scotland Branch judging by the mosaic tiled entrance - We didnt see any rooms in the main hotel but if this room is anything to go by, the standard is high - Great Start!!... I would summarise the accomodation as follows... LOCATION - perfect, quiet & just 2 minutes walk from the main street where a good selection of shops, pubs & restaraunts await ( Mackays pub was good & reasonable - Auld smiddy's was expensive with no atmosphere ) - just 7 miles further up the A9 lies Blair Athol castle - definatly recommend a visit here. .... ROOM - tastefully decorated & furnished beautifully, the only very minor point being the pillows which were quite hard.... FACILITIES - Lovely reception area, dining room & sauna / fitness / pool area - the steam room was out of order & jacuzzi has no real bubble effect but this only a minor fault & doesnt take away from the relaxing ambience - used this twice & would recommend.... SPA - would definatly say to have a treatment - myself & partner had a neck & back massage which was just heaven - SPA manager Chloe very informative & her training in this field shows though in her work - a real tonic - thanks! .. FOOD - on the DBB deal there were 3 choices for starter, main & sweet - but that was all we needed the food was as you would expect - tasty & well presented & to fit most tastes - the loin pork & chicken were great, with coffee served in the reception lobby.... Breakfast selection of hot / cold was again ample & varied... STAFF - Fantastic - some of the best customer service ive had in hotels - Staff member Violetta in reception / bar area could not have done more to welcome us & this continued throughout the stay - thank you! - Robert the hotel manager - ditto - so helpfull despite being run off his feet at times... thanks... The other staff a little slow during breakfast but this was no problem with a little patience & any queries regarding meal wait times were dealt with promptly.... Overall - a fantastic place to go - had never been before but will definaltly book again - WELL DONE TO ALL THE STAFF AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!

we have just returned from a very pleasurable 2 night stay at the Scotland's hotel. The accomodation, food, leisure facilities and staff were nothing short of superb. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by a very pleasant receptionist. The staff in the dining area were efficient, pleasant and courteous. The general manager was there for all residents to meet and was serving in the dining room along with the rest of the staff. Always a good sign. This was a very positive experience and we will certainly be back.
Good choice of hotel easy breaks.

Mpact building and the setup shows its age. Very clean and efficient, looked understaffed but was very good in general. One crime I cannot forgive is the warm white wine, was quickly rectified by an ice bucket.
The leisure centre is clean and compact, sauna was absolutely brilliant.

My sister and I booked a two night spa break for my mum's 70th birthday. Hotel is very warm and friendly. All the staff we encountered from reception, bar, spa and dining room were really friendly and made the stay for us.
We stayed in a family room which was very large and spotlessly clean. The menus and the meals were great. The spa treatments were excellent and relaxing. The swimming pool and leisure facilities were spotlessly clean, the only thing missing was perhaps a lounging area around the pool but that is just down to space.
We had a very memorable weekend and would certainly recomend this hotel and we will visit again.

Stayed at the Hotel for two nights with 4 other guys during a stag weekend. Considering it was known we were a stag, the staff could not have been more welcoming or friendly. The reception staff were friendly and informative, the manager (Karolina) was good humoured, patient and utterly charming to 5 guys who could otherwise have been considered slightly attention seeking ! Stan the night porter's toast is strongly recommended.
The breakfast was very Scottish and tasty and the pool spa ensures complete value for money. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable and the only slight negative observation is that the corridors need freshening up to match the rooms.
Overall a highly recommended, good value place to stay.
