“Ideal for a quiet and peaceful break”
Reviewed 6 March 2010

The hotel is near the town centre overlooking the main street and valley from an imposing position. However, the climb up to the hotel from the town, although fairly short, is quite steep. Pitlochry Festival Theatre is always well worth a visit but especially during the summer season when the hotel will arrange early dinner in order that guests are not deprived of the appetising menu.
The welcome is, invariably warm, and the staff are well trained and welcoming. Making reservations by telephone is straightforward.
There is still a number of good quality privately owned shops in town and the House of Bruar is nearby as are many fascinating tourist beauty spots. Pitlochry Golf Club is very close.

We have stayed at Pine Trees many times over the last few years and the service is outstanding ranging from the warm welcome when you arrive to the amazing afternoon tea, to the excellent dinner menu. Coupled with this the rooms are very comfortable with good facilities. Pitlochry is situated right in the heart of Scotland and has many easily accessible places to visit locally and even with a short car ride many others.

We love the location, the hotel, the staff and cannot wait to visit again.

Thank you Pine Trees

Warm welcome, very comfortable room and great food. Hardly wanted to leave the place to explore the area, but sure of a great evening to return to. Even my dog thoroughly enjoyed her visit (the odd doggy bag helped - she certainly approved of the menu.) Good friendly atmosphere, you certainly feel at home and relaxed here.

I was really looking forward to the 2 night break my parents had bought my Husband and I for Christmas but the four of us were left slightly disappointed.
On arrival our rooms were close together which was good and the porter took our bags up the stairs to the rooms. On entering our room it was rather cold so the porter turned up the heating dial. We ate lunch in the bar area next to the large and really rather draughty large window - a feture throughout some of the areas in the hotel - there were thick curtains whihc if had been closed certainly would have kept to keep some of the heat in.

On returning to our room a few hours later it was still very cold. There were no instructions in the room on how the heating system worked so we turned up the dial and hoped for the best. On visiting my prents room we discovered their room was nice and warm as the radiator was on. Returnign to our own room we discovered that our radiator did not work and could not be turned on. My husband called reception who informed him the radiators did not work and the heating came through the vents in the ceiling.

Dinner was lovely each evening nad had something for everyone - the service was excellent and could not be faulted.

The hotel provides board games to use however we found some guests looking at us disapprovingly when we were getting excited when playing - not a nice feeling.

On our second night at the hotel 29th December we were shocked to witness 5 dogs in the lounge area! I had thought the hotel had a no pets policy (one of the reasons we booked) but on looking at the information provided in the bedroom - I noticed dogs were allowed at the discression of the management. Had I known that these dogs were in the hotel I perhaps would have reconsidered travelling however - what made this worse was the fact that one couple with 3 dogs seemed to thinkt hey owned the place and let their dogs wander in the lounge and fire area. This made it difficult to get passed as the dogs were lounging infront of the fire when they were not wandering about.

The other thing that put me off Pine Trees were the type of guests who go there. These are mostly posh people with a lot of money who think if you don't quite dress/look/act as they think you should then you are not welcome at Pine Trees.

I would stay at this hotel again but only if the management reconsider their policy on dogs.

Have stayed on many occasions.
The service is always excellent, dinner and breakfast of a very high standard, accommodation equally so.
It is always a real pleasure to arrive and to stay here, and the only good thing about leaving is looking forward to returning!

Stayed at the Pine Trees for a weekend break having seen lots of good reviews on TripAdvisor. Booked on-line and e-mailed the hotel a couple of times before we arrived with prompt replies. However initial reception at check in was perhaps rather "cool" and offhand. However that was quickly forgotten as the rest of the very attentive and delightful staff made us feel completely welcome to the hotel. We ate in the hotel on both evenings. Food was excellent with a good choice of fresh local produce. Staff were very attentive but we did not feel under pressure to finish our meals and were able to stay in the dining room as long as we wished. There was a good wine menu. LIkewise breakfasts were excellent and freshly cooked with a wide variety of fruits and fruit juices. Public rooms are welcoming and comfortable with big soft armchairs, warm open fires and a selection of books and family games to play.

We stayed in the Molyneux Suite which was generally vast with a big four-poster bed, a sitting area, two TV's, a DVD player and an iPod docking station / music station. We particularly liked the corner seating area which looked out over the gardens. However I have to agree with the previous poster regarding the en-suite which although well equipped was rather cramped and poorly laid out - I suspect if you had real mobility problems then it might be difficult to use.

The hotel was situated in its own grounds approximately 10 minutes walk from the centre of Pitlochry. Now Pitlochry can be something of an all things to all men (or women) place. A Victorian Spa town and a regular on the Scottish bus tour circuit it does the highland kitsch tartan tourism stuff pretty well – kilt shops, fudge shops, whisky and the (legendary?) “Highland Night” with bagpipes and Highland dancing. But it also delivers much more too. Situated just off the A9 Inverness road, there are lots of walks around the local lochs and hills and it has become a walking and something of a cycling mecca - mountain bike routes abound and it is the start and finish point of the Highland Etape – the only “closed road” cycle race event in the UK which takes cyclists west past Lochs Tummel and Rannoch returning via the lower slopes of Schiehallion and Aberfeldy. Canoeing and gorge walking are also available locally. It has its own “Festival Theatre” with performances throughout the year and the Autumnal “Enchanted Forest” light show which enhances the spectacular colours of the native forests. This really is an all-year destination.

Enjoyed one night's stay in the Molyneux Suite which was spacious, nicely furnished & comfortable. The service in the dining room was impeccable with the staff being friendly, helpful & attentive. Food was good but not spectacular. The comfortable bar/lounge area was an absolute pleasure to sit in with a gorgeous open fire to keep us cosy. One thing that we found strange (and potentially dangerous) was the layout of the ensuite bathroom (corner bath which was very awkward to get in and out of due to the close position to the toilet and the positioning of the shower screen ..... an accident waiting to happen? Hope not. Overall an excellent hotel
