“Very disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 October 2011

We spent two days here and given the magnificent grounds and building as you drive up were very excited. Unfortunately the rest let it down. The hotel was roasting, the dining room, the public rooms and the bedrooms we spent the whole two days with bedroom windows wide open in October and it made very little difference. The staff were unhelpful and surly. Breakfast was a disaster, no places set when we came down, no glasses, no plates yet heaps an heaps of hot food that was never going to be eaten. Each and every member of the staff and the manager that we asked for help were barely able to answer us and in some cases totally ignored us. We were very disappointed there are loads of hotels in this area which you would want to try

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have amazing views get one on a higher floor and ask for full view over the valley

Don't stay in rooms 128-140 if you can't stand heat as these rooms are directly above the kitchens -the floor was warm and if the window is opened you will be roused at 6am when some kitchen device is switched on and throbs away noisily. Also take your own shower cap-none provided. fruit at breakfast was stale and the food generally was very poor-beware of the fish and chips. There was very little provision for vegetarians .The setting is magnificent and the staff pleasant but I didn't think this hotel merited the Scottish Board 4 stars.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms 128-140 far too hot and noisy

I organised afternoon tea at the Atholl Palace as a treat for two elderly ladies. Although the staff were very pleasant and the surroundings were lovely, the afternoon tea itself was very disappointing. The sandwiches were ok but the hotel's own website promises 'a sumptuous selection of savoury and sweet scones and an assortment of homemade cakes' when, in fact, there were two huge, slightly stale and tasteless scones and a selection of unexciting shop-bought cakes. Considering the cost, this was disappointing and very poor value for money.

We stayed here after a wedding in early September, The hotel itself was lovely, and set in such gorgeous grounds. The rooms however were a complete let down, the decor was very tired, not in a classy way but more of a done up in eighties and well in need of a good refurb way! Rooms were quite cramped and the cleanliness of the bathroom wasnt up to my standard. Rooms not particularly sound proofed either - we could hear everything going on in the corridor and next door!
Breakfast again was a dissapointment! there was a self service buffet, within which alot of the food was cold and greasy, and we were not offered a vegetarian cooked breakfast, glasses provided for the juice all seemed bizzarely sticky.
In the morning we made good use of the leisure facilites - the pool, jacuzzi, plunge pool, sauna and steam room were all excellent and really made our stay.
All in all this was not worth the £160 pounds we paid for the room!

We ended up at the Atholl Palace due to a last minute change in our itinerary. And we were glad that we did.

The room was large and cleaned and comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous. Dinner and breakfast were both great. And the staff were all exceedingly warm and helpful.

This hotel is lovely. It is full of Scottish charm - from the welcome Glayva drink to the friendly Scottish staff. We have stayed a number of times but most recently spent a night in the Tower Suite which is absolutely fabulous. The views are spectacular and the rooms are decorated to an exceptional standard. The buffet breakfast here is among the best and the general manager Dougal always around to offer a personal service and friendly smile. Definitely one of our favourite places to stay.
