“A peaceful wildlife retreat”
Reviewed 20 June 2017 for a stay in May 2017

A lovely place to stay with wonderful wildlife around the cottage and in the area. Excellent location for exploring the Pitlochry area with great walks and views.
The cottage facilities are best described as "they have thought of everything". This is the second time we have stayed there and friends who we told about it are also going back a second time.

“Squirrel Cottage a perfect retreat”

From the minute we arrived we knew that this was a special place. Kathleen met us and showed us round the property. The cottage has everything and more, perfect location, wildlife in abundance, warm, welcoming, quiet, relaxing. The cottage in Killiecrankie is in a perfect location for touring the area, near the Queens View, Soldiers Leap, Pitlochry, Blair Athol, Kinloch Rannoch, we went on to Rannoch station great cafe there. Plenty of good walking in the area of the cottage. Try Killecrankie to Pitlochry walk. We will be back.

“Perfect solo retreat”
Reviewed 21 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

I came to stay in Squirrel Cottage for 3 nights to escape the hecticness of the city and have some time out to work on my PhD. Everything about my stay was wonderful. The cottage is lovely and cosy and has thoughtful little extras like homemade marmalade and plum jam, organic groceries, mineral water, lots of toiletries and chocolates. I love wildlife so it was such a treat to see so many different birds and squirrels just outside the window. I saw a woodpecker and a deer from the bedroom! The hospitality of Kathleen and James was incredible. I was picked up and dropped off at the station and James even nipped out to buy me a chicken soup (I had a cold). I also enjoyed watching a little Bluetit via the nest-cam and had a go at setting up a motion-sensor camera to see what animals popped up! Went on a brilliant walk along the river thanks to the helpful detailed guides left in the cottage. I would love to return again. My soul has been thoroughly recharged :-)

“Perfect winter retreat”
Reviewed 14 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

Spent the short hours of daylight walking but returned to immaculately clean, comfortable cottage. We were only able to have 4 nights way and the welcome pack provided was a great help in self catering for a short stay.Every possible need catered for : additional food for birds and ravenous red squirrels through to current radio times, sweets , toiletries etc. Comprehensive information about local area , walks, maps, history .Such care and thought to welcome the wildlife . Amazing one way window in bedroom meant we could see birds and squirrels in close up . Peaceful and convenient location. James and Kathleen have really done everything possible to make the cottage a home from home. No hesitation in recommending.

“Excellent relaxing getaway even in winter.”
Reviewed 5 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Have reviewed Squirrel Cottage previously and as usual it is a perfect getaway for a quiet peaceful stay but also excellent as a base for exploring Perthshire. Previous stays have been in summer period but have now experienced the cottage in winter. We were lucky to have good weather for the time of year but had we not been so fortunate, there are excellent facilities for making the cottage warm and comfortable from central heating and eco friendly heaters to a plentiful supply of extra bedding.

Thank you very much Robert for your comments, especially as you have now stayed in the colder months. Yes Squirrel Cottage's oil fired central heating heats the cottage very well through out the whole cottage and as you say there are extra blankets too. We very much appreciate you leaving your experience for others at this time of year. Our very best wishes and thank, Kathleen and James

“Home from home............even better!!!”
Reviewed 24 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We have just spent another amazing week at Squirrel Cottage. This time we only saw one squirrel but that didn't deter from the enjoyment of the holiday. The cottage is so well equipped there is nothing to want for.
It was lovely to come back each day to such a clean, comfortable and homely base. We spent quite a few hours in the sun room relaxing with a good back.
Kathleen and James have really thought of everything. Right down to a camera in one of the bird boxes with a live link to the television...............fantastic! Even though the box is empty just now.
If you want certainty about accommodation in this area then you will find nothing better than Squirrel Cottage. You do need to book early though.

Wow..... Helen, thank you very much for the glowing review, we really appreciate it. October tends to be a bad time for Red Squirrels at our feeders, as there is often lots natural food, hazel nuts, beach nuts for them to eat. The red squirrels return in large numbers the natural crop runs out. We have a feeling this year's natural crop is not massive, as we had so little sunshine this summer (not much rain either), so interesting when we see them back. Our guess is mid to late November - time will tell. Best wishes and thank you for your feedback. Kathleen and James
