“How refreshing”
Reviewed 21 May 2014

From the moment I arrived to the warmest of welcomes to leaving, nothing was too much trouble. The rooms so comfortable, the food delicious and the views breath-taking. The only downside was I was away on business for one night only. Will definitely be returning but this time strictly leisure only. Thank-you to everyone at Fonab Castle. What a refreshing change.

Room Tip: Did not use the leisure facilities

We arrived an a Sat afternoon and were very warmly greeted by a staff member named Alan as the receptionist was not there, he very quickly booked us in and spent a few minutes asking us about our journey and polite chit chat which was nice. He then asked another staff member Michael to help us with our bags, which he did. But he didn't just take us to our room, he took us around the hotel and showed us where the fine dining restaurant, the bar and the brasserie restaurant were located, thought that was a nice touch. It is a really beautiful hotel with a lovely outlook. It was our Silver Wedding Anniversary therefore a special day. When we got to our room, was a lovely room with a nice shower room, very colourful but tastefully decorated room with a lovely King sized bed, it was on the third floor room 302. They had left a beautiful plate with choccies on all wrapped up lovely and a card which was very much appreciated. We then went to the bar and had some lovely drinks and nibbles, their fresh bread basket was amazing as well as the chorizo sausage. There was a Spanish waiter in the bar who was very friendly and helpful. We were eating in the brasserie (separate review) later so we just wanted sharing plates. All in all we thought the hotel was of a high standard and calibre and the Customer care we received was exemplary. I think I heard them say they were going for 5* award. If that is true then in my opinion they are well on their way to achieving that. They had a real personable approach which was refreshing as sometimes hotels of this ilk can be a bit stuffy. A must visit, fab hotel, in lovely Pitlochry. Will definitely visit again.

Room Tip: 302 was a lovely room, there is only 4 rooms on this floor I think

Experienced an excellent Sunday lunch with 7 other friends. Very well priced food prepared to a high standard, served in a beautiful location.
The staff were extremely pleasant , and mature enough to interact well with customers. A very high standard of waiting staff and commissionaire. Will definitely return.

We stayed here at the end of April for a couple of nights, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, it was very very good. The staff were welcoming and attentive right from the start, and the accommodation was very clean, comfortable, and to a very high standard. Breakfast was excellent, and we had a couple of meals in the evening at the brasserie, which had a varied menu, with food well presented and very tasty, in relaxed surroundings. We also had a cream tea in the lounge (scones freshly baked), which has fantastic full sized window views over the grounds and Loch Faskally. Location is also perfect, with a 10 minute walk across the dam into the centre of Pitlochry, plus close access to walks around the Loch. All in all, a really relaxing couple of days. We have already planned a return.

This hotel is a hidden gem....not many people seemed to know or have heard of it! Stunning location, excellent food, staff and service. It is a ten minute walk from the hotel into Pitlochry. We had a lovely room which opened straight onto a grass area designated for walking dogs, could not have been better!

I was surfing the Internet trying to find a suitable place to host a surprise celebration for my husband's 60th. He had treated me to a trip to Abu Dhabi for my 60th in January and made it clear that he wanted no fuss and to stay at home for his 60th in April. In spite of that I tried all our usual haunts and they were fully booked.
In desperation I Googled "Luxury Hotels Scotland" et voila: Fonab Castle Hotel popped up. I read the Trip Advisor reviews and decided to take the plunge.
To my delight we were able to get a booking over the Easter weekend and also book a surprise lunch on the Saturday for our families.
I could not have been happier with the result. Lunch was perfect and the hotel coped beautifully with the dietary requirements of our great niece and nephews.
We had our lovely cocker spaniel with us and therefore had to stay in a Woodland Room. The size of the room is underwhelming, with no bath. However looking beyond that, the quality of fittings outweighs any reservations you might have.
The hotel is just lovely and the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Service sometimes feels a bit on the slow side-then you remember this is holiday time: not business, and appreciate the lack of hassle. Food at times was not the best we've tasted (the venison in particular) but the 7 course taster meal in the Sandemans restaurant was excellent.
This is a hotel which cares about customer service, You pays your money: you takes your choice. We had a lovely, relaxing break which felt as if we had been away for longer than we actually had. Is that not the essence of a great break? I was almost reluctant to recommend the Fonab as, if they continue to get such great reviews, we could struggle to get a return booking!
We'll certainly be back! Thanks to all the management and staff at the Fonab: we look forward to seeing you again.

Room Tip: We had a dog and therefore had to stay in a Woodland Room. Next time we may leave the dog with frien...
