We stayed with our granddaughter one night to see the Enchanted Forest which is a lovely experience, probably best for primary school children and adults. The family room was ideal - in the absence but a short covered walkway to the the main castle like building that has wonderful views to the West. The reception and waiting staff are charming, helpful and make you feel really welcome. Breakfast was a really good selection of a hot order and large buffet choice of cold selections - this was much better than many large expensive hotels offer. The large open garden is overlooked from the large lounge and restaurant areas and has a spectacular view over the valley to the hills in the West . Would certainly come back here.

Stayed here for just one night - arrived before check in time but room was ready and we were allowed in early. Is an old property and so dated in decor and layout but that adds to its charm. Spotlessly clean and well maintained. Mostly older guests staying when we were there but a few younger couples around.
Stayed in main building and room was huge and comfortable. Bath with mixer shower might not suit everyone but was great for us. Lovely amenities in room and gorgous view from bedroom window.
Did not have dinner here but drinks in bar were great and fairly priced and breakfast in morning was everything you could want.
The staff deserve special mention - all working very hard but all cheery, helpful, friendly and seemed to be happy in their job - everyone from reception to bar to restaurant staff to housekeeping.
Would definitely stay here again - everything in town is easy walking distance.

Room Tip: Main building facing away from car park has great views

Warm and welcoming, easy to find and in a great location. We were in the extension which means walking outside to reach the main hotel (OK in summer months but not if its raining or snowing!) Hotel is old fashioned, lots of people will like that, but we chose to eat out looking for something a bit more interesting. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, good food and great service. We wished we had eaten in the hotel the night before.
Hotel is easy walk to town centre and the Theatre with good choice for places to eat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hotel rather than the annexe.

Lovely old hotel. We stayed in the newer section so didn't get all the atmosphere the place had to offer. Sitting rooms and lounges were very nice for using the wi-fi, very comfortable and cozy with a fire going in the front room. Most of the other guests were older than us, and there was no night life to speak of in the hotel or the town. Staff were wonderful. The breakfast included in our room cost was above average, very good. Bonus of the hotel was that while it was just outside of town it was an easy walk to the main street along a quiet lane, which was quite lovely.

Room Tip: We were in the newer part, and I think it would have been nice to be in the old hotel itself.

Hotel set in lovely grounds and has a very relaxing atmosphere inside and out. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The only thing that let the hotel down was it's restaurant. The breakfast was lovely and you could ask for more but dinner was a big let down. There are no prices on the restaurant menu if you don't want the full four course meal so Mum and I didn't really know what we would be paying for (we should have asked). Anyway we both ordered a starter which were both lovely but it was the mains that really let it down. I ordered venison and when it came it look like four greyish brown xxxxx in a running gravy and very overcooked! presentation and taste were awful. Mum's roast lamb was ok but looked more like a hospital dinner. At £20 for a main really should be better. Would stay again but dinner in town.

I booked this Hotel for a one night get away for my Fianceé and I. Staff were very friendly on arrival, quick check in and overall made you feel looked after. We had a bit of trouble with our door, we struggle to open it, the owner came to our aid but he also seemed bewildered by the lock. After 5 minutes we got into our room, a very big room, recently redecorated, lovely antique style furniture, fresh fruit basket on the table, huge bathroom and excellent views. The bathroom was carpeted, not the most hygienic bathroom flooring but it was clean as far as we could tell. A short walk to the Town, very busy for such a small place, plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. We for a nice walk then returned to the Town for Dinner. We chose and place called The Auld Smiddy Inn, an old blacksmiths house and workshop turned into a gastro pub. The meal excellent, a little pricey but well worth it. We returned to the Hotel, a quick freshen up, then went down to the bar, great selection of Whiskies, wines & spirits but lacking in the beer/lager department. The barmen was friendly and happy to help with anything. We retired to the room, it felt very cosy even for it's size. Because our room was above the bar and lounge, we were able the access the wifi in the room, a wee bonus. Excellent nights sleep, so peaceful that you could here just the water from the river. We had the breakfast in the room, beautifully cooked breakfast a couple items from the continental menu and coffee that set us up for the day. We would definitely stay here again, couldn't fault really thing. We were looking for somewhere just to chill, recharge and relax, that's what we got.
