“Wonderful place to spend Hogmanay”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

We have spent the last three Hogmanay's at East Haugh House. Both accommodation and food are excellent, the staff are always on hand and the service they give is above and beyond the norm.
It is a family run hotel, and they make you feel part of the family at all events. Would thoroughly recommend it. Will certainly return again.

Room Tip: All rooms are wonderful. Tastefully decorated and very comfortable.

My husband and I stayed here for a night. We stayed in a four poster room which was heavenly and enjoyed a fantastic jacuzzi bath. Decor was very tasteful and bed incredibly comfortable. Room spotless. The best thing about our stay was the amazing food. It was simply the best food we've EVER had in a Scottish hotel. We try and go away wee trips in Scotland a couple times a year and this was the best by far! The food was incredible, we are still talking about it a week later and in particular the desserts which were so good I could live on the warmed chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream. The food was fresh, locally sourced and the manager was more than happy to answer any questions and supplemented the rum chocolate sauce of my dessert for butterscotch due to my pregnancy. Needless to say breakfast did not disappoint. A beautiful hotel and we can't wait to get back there for the wonderful food, great service and chilled atmosphere once our baby has arrived!

We loved our stay here. Right from the start Jane couldn't do enough for us. I was provided with a lovely packed lunch for my stalk and Donna got herself breakfast in bed. Food was fabulous, cooked well with great ingredients. Can't fault it really, we will be back soon!

Ok lets get the title out of the way, this wasn't as great as we expected for a number if reasons.... Only some of which relate to the hotel....

Firstly we couldnt get a taxi there for 45 mins after our booking time ( this was middle of november!)..apparently only 2 taxis service the entire Pitlochry area..... so...not off to a great start but not the fault of the hotel, although whoever took my booking said you may struggle to get a taxi at 7.45 .... What she should've said to me was... Book your taxi now!

Secondly we arrived and there was a wedding function on and we were seated in the bar with some of the wedding guests who were merrily drinking.... Again I feel I shouldve been told this rather than discover on arrival.... Although she did tell me the dining room was fully booked (but not for a wedding). When we were at our desserts, we were asked if we minded if the music was turned up for the wedding guests... Which then was promptly turned up and dance music switched on.

That aside.... The menu was good and it had game...which was what we went for after trying to get this unsuccessfully in other restaurants in Pitlochry.

The black pudding croquets were very very good. I think there were done with panko breadcrumbs...lovely.

The hake and venison dishes were both very very nice.. loved the quirky plates.

Creme brûlee I was told was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding I felt was quite dry.

So..we went for the food, and we enjoyed the food.... I felt thought that the dining experience was let down by miscommunication if the taxis and the fact there was a function on that night.

It does sound like my experience may be a one off though, judging by other reviews of this place.

I want to be as honest as possible in my review.

We used to eat regular at this hotel as it is only 20 minutes drive from us, on our last visit there was new staff and sadly the service was not as good as it used to be. When the 4 of us first arrived we had to stand for a considerable time before someone appeared from the bar and made way to reception. Once we received menu's we were forgotten about and I had to go and find someone to take order (only one other party in restaurant so wasn't busy).
Once food was ordered it was 50 minutes before starter was served.
Food was still as good as usual but we will not be back as there are other restaurants just as close but with excellent service, very disappointed this time especially when we took friends with us to show how good the place was.
