I have just come back from two nights at this hotel, Lesley, Neil Sophie and team were outstanding in every way

the food was amonst the best I have tasted in recent times and the hospitality was oustanding

An amazing venue to base yourself for fishing as we did, two days fishing and two days eating and drinking very well

The room I have had a four poster bed, great jacuzzi bath and molton brown toiletries

Lesley and Neil make this place feel like home and its one of the best places to visit if your visiting the highlands of scotland

The food was truly wonderful - some of the best I have ever eaten. Fresh, locally-sourced produce, cooked simply but flavoured fantastically. I would come back for the food alone. However, it wasn't just the food that was great. The hotel itself is somewhere that you looked forward to returning to after a day walking in the surrounding hills - small and cozy, log fires, shooting and fishing memorabilia on the walls for decoration. The bar and restaurant were great - great selection of local ales, whiskies and a great wine list. The rooms were really comfortable and the bathrooms were spacious and modern. Above all, the staff were warm and welcoming, such that it didn't feel like you were staying in a hotel - it had the feel of a weekend spent staying with friends. I could have stayed for a week, and I will be back!

This charming family run hotel on the edge of Pitlochry is the epitome of an outstanding customer service journey from the beginnning to the end of your stay with sumptious fine dining of michelin star standard adding to the experience. The charming East Haugh room complete with four poster, log fire and jacuzzi bath is a real treat for that someone special. The McGown family run establishment has won a host of awards and if you visit or indeed stay there you will understand why.

We've tried to stay a couple of times before but have always been too late to get a room. After an 8 hour drive we were greeted warmly but without fuss. We were travelling with our two terriers and it was great to feel that dogs were very happily accepted (assuming you're a sensible dog owner). We gave them a quick walk then headed for dinner. In this case we were over-nighting on a long journey to the Highlands - so weren't particularly worried about food. But we had a fantastic meal. Not saying it was a surprise - but the quality of the food meant we'd definitely consider a stay here for that alone. If one word sums up the hotel it would be 'confident'.

We had been intending to write a review...and after reading a very negative review we decided in was time to write this review.

We found the East Haugh House via an ad in Scottish Field Magazine which said.... "Scottish Fishing Hotel of the Year 2009" and "Neil McGowan, Chef Medaille d'Or for Dinner Excellence".

This little hotel lived up to our expectations. We were looking for a hotel that could arrange a day of salmon fishing for my father and our son (they had been fishing buddies for many years!) while on our first family vacation to Scotland. East Haugh was the perfect place. After spending 7 days in August touring Scotland by car and staying in bed and breakfasts we were also looking for a small hotel that would provide some opportunities to relax in one location for 3 nights and for fine dining.

Our party of four had two bedrooms in the annex just next to the main house, a twin room downstairs for my son and my father and a king room upstairs for my husband and ourselves. Both rooms were very tastefully decorated and had private bath facilities. Both rooms also had TVs, tea trays and Moulton Brown toiletries.

The main house has the comfortable feel of a small luxury sporting hotel with a lovely little library/sitting area and the formal Two Sisters Dining Room. There is also a more casual dining area in the pub/bar area with a fireplace and many pictures of famous catches on the wall....lots of atmosphere.

Chef Neil McGowan deserves all accolades that he has won! Our package included breakfasts and dinners for our group of four for three days. While our Scottish country breakfasts were excellent, the dinners stole the show! Every course of every meal was outstanding. We have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to dine at some of the best restaurants in Canada (including Relais et Chateaux restaurants) and Chef McGowan consistently delivered food that would rival these.

The service was friendly and personal throughout...from making all the reservations in advance for the package including the fishing (arranged through Dalmarnock Fishings), to the actual dining room service. This is a small hotel where they know you personally and do their utmost to ensure that you have a pleasant stay.

This is not a large 5 star luxury resort hotel. If you want that kind of hotel you should look elsewhere. It is located somewhat near the highway as mentioned in other reviews but that was not a problem for us at all - we never heard the road traffic.

We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Pitlochery area.

They knew we were desperate for a room since festival was on in town, charged us 238 pounds for a cottage (one night for 2 people) with no heat, hot water, and tv/stereo system didn't work. When we asked for repairs, the next day they did turn on heat and moved small bedroom tv to replace entertainment unit (part of why the price was so high). On our bill, it stated that we were to have dinners which we weren't told about, and when we wanted that removed from bill, we were told we weren't entitled to the meal. We wanted to speak to the owner but she refused to speak with us, and in the end, gave us 10% discount on one of the two nights, then charged the 3% increase for using Visa.
The owner's attitude was quite upsetting, while carrying on a conversation with us in the dining room, she spotted someone else, and left us mid-sentence with no apology and no return. We watched her do this to someone else too.
The breakfast was so-so, and they brought the toast after we had finished the meal, with no apology.
We were obviously not guests who mattered.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
I'm sorry that you feel your stay at East Haugh House was expensive. During peak times such as bank holiday weekends our rates are slightly higher but we do try to offer a good rate when we can. I understand you stayed in our beautiful two bedroom gate lodge. The rate for this would usually be a lot higher as it is for 4 people so you actually got a very good deal and had the whole place to yourself.
I apologise for the problems with the TV and hot water/heat. I understand this was fixed straight away and 10% was taken off your bill. The 3% charge for using a credit card is clearly stated in the details when booking and is a common procedure in the hotel industry.
We strive to ensure that every guest who comes to stay with us at East Haugh House has the best customer service and we are very disappointed to hear you felt this wasn't the case for you. We apologise for this.
We hope to welcome you back to East Haugh House one day.
