“Fabulous, best I've stayed in Pitlochry”
Reviewed 31 August 2009

We had a wonderful week at the Craigvrack, we were lucky that the weather was fine, as we could take full advantage of the great views from the terrace. We have stayed in Pitlochry before but this hotel was a real find as the food was brilliant, staff friendly and a lovely wee bar too!! Other hotels in this area are crammed in with nothing to look at but other buildings/walls, this is very different and the reason you come to Pitlochry.

My wife and I spent one night 8th/9th November 08.
Everything was excellent, except the weather, room was excellent, new shower unit, small flat screen tv,tea and coffee making facilities in the room, could not fault it and all at a very reasonable price.
All the staff, without exception, were friendly and very helpful, would highly recommend it.

We recently stayed in Pitlochry for one night in order to see the Enchanted Forest. We ended up at the Craigvrack after our original booking at another hotel had to be changed due to building works. I was a little concerned at first about the walk up the hill with two young children but actually it wasn't far and there was plenty of parking in town if they didn't want to walk.

The hotel itself turned out to be lovely. All the staff were really warm and friendly and the room was extremely comfortable. We had a family room on the top floor and the kids loved the slightly sloping ceilings over their beds that gave them each their own little alcove to sleep in! The only thing I could have done with was a shower - there was only a bath with a spray attachment. And, as most other reviews have already said, breakfast was really good, with everyone's needs catered for! I would definitely stay there again if we decide to go back next year.

Stayed for 3 nights, food was/is fantastic, was not sure what to expect from the previuos review,........................................what can i say, but all the staff are very welcoming cant do enough for you and always willing to assist, the head chef came into the restaurant every night after the meal and spoke to all the dinners asking how they enjoyed thier meal. I think the new owners have had the hotel for just over a year, the bar is used by some locals but they are all very nice and chat to ever one, even max the dog does some tricks for you before he goes home.

One of the highlights was we were able to join in on a "Murder Mystery" night followed by a wee dance agian some locals had booked in for this along with other guests.

Everyone we meet was friendly.

As for booking for New Year, we have booked.

This is a great family hotel for all age groups,

Before we booked we checked the Trip advisor reviews,

But this hotel has recently been taken over and we found ourselves in
unchartered waters.

We have enjoyed many holidays in Scotland and we have made some wonderful scottish freinds. We always choose family owned hotels or guesthouses because our girls thrive in a family atmosphere and it is
important that it feels like home for them.

The new owners are probably still finding their feet, But, I have to say I have never felt so unwelcome!

Especially as a paying guest!

This family need to decide whether they want to be a public house for
the locals or a quality hotel which values its guests.

I had thought that this may have been an excellent venue for Hogmanay
and our trip was a bit of a fact finding mission for my large and extended family.

Make no mistake, this was a clean hotel in a nice part of town but for us it lacked the true scottish charm we have come to expect.

Small but nice hotel in an ideal setting - although for elderly or infirm residents the uphill walk from the town centre to the hotel should be borne in mind. The distance is roughy 400 to 500 metres from Pitlochrie main street.

Stayed for three nights on half-board basis. Food was excellent. Bedroom was very small but adequate. Nice litlle lounge bar in the hotel and prices ok. Staff friendly and the hotel very clean and well-decorated.

The bar ran out of dark beer on the Sunday night (not my fault as our group weren't drinking that much) which was surprising and rather disappointing. Also ran out of cheese (so the cheeseboard wasn't on at dinner) and also venison ( a couple ordered it at lunchtime on the Sunday and, although the order was taken the waiter returned to say they had ran out of it). However, as stated, the food was excellent and really well-presented and the lounge bar was really nice.

Fine hotel for a short break but bear in mind that there is no entertainment provided - although the Pitlochry Hydro is nearby. I would guess that you could go to Pitlochry, on half-board - basis cheaper and at just-as-nice a hotel.
